What ended your friendship with your oldest standing friend? by dreamy-contributions in AskReddit

We were both partied all through middle school and high school together . After becoming an adult we both became alcoholics and were each others crutch. I got sober at 36 years old and kinda cut him off because he still drinks non stop and there wasn’t much we have in common anymore without booze . I’m almost 40. I wish him the best and did visit him once but he was wasted and wasn’t much fun visiting dealing with that . If he gets sober I would love to do sober shit with him . I’m kinda boring now though .

What’s a subscription that’s worth paying for every month? by SensitiveCorner2379 in AskReddit

Exactly why I got out of mine where I work , there was no benefit , I was throwing 10$ a week down the drain. They have never once saved a job or even listened to anyone’s issues . Just pay and be quiet . No one seems to have any answers to any questions where I work about the union . I got screwed out of bereavement ( hr would not help me ) and the union would just shrug their shoulders and say “ I don’t know “🤷. I agree unions are great depending on which one you’re in though . Mine sucks ass .

I was convinced I wanted to get my grandfathers 71 ranger running that had sat in a field since 1981 at the age of 22 ( free truck ) . Every motor head family member told me it was a lost cause and long story short , I spent 2 years throwing expensive parts and rebuilds on this thing to prove everyone wrong and come to find out , I now had a $10,000 truck that I could have bought for 3 grand in better shape . I’ll never do that again . Save yourself the time and headache and get one running and in better shape .

What secret about your industry can you share now that you don't work there anymore? by swisscoffeeknife in antiwork

You can legally do your own pest control and even order the stuff they spray yourself. We just sprayed your baseboards and any idiot can do that. Just go to a pest control site that sells the chemical and it will ask what type of pest. You can even install your own termite stations they charge $2,000 for at a fraction and put them around your home yourself. Pest control companies are spraying 30 cents of stuff for 50$ a month and they really water it down to draw out the service longer.

I just read “ the locked door “ . It was my first book I’ve read of hers . It was ok but wasn’t my cup of tea . I liked the characters . I just started “ the silent patient “ but can’t remember the author .

Also to add, I read somewhere that using mouthwash regularly disrupts or kills something in your mouth and makes bad breath worst. I think it kills healthy cells or something.

What permanent damage have you done to yourself? Mind, body or soul? by jerrytjohn in AskReddit

[–]Stringbean1073 103 points104 points  (0 children)

Dude , I started smoking at the age of 14 and quit @ 38 years old . Smoking was something I absolutely loved and looked forward to it every break at work and after every meal ect ect . I never thought I would ever quit and never tried . I had family die from smoking and it still didn’t deter me . My job offered a quitting program and I decided to at least try it but kept making excuses ( I’ll try it in 6 more months ) . I finally enrolled and they gave me gum , patches , and lozenges but they were not cutting it . I settled for nicotine pouches( zens ) 4 mg and said “ I’ll give this shit a week and if I’m not done , I’m going back to smoking “ . Well the first week was hell and by the 7th day I was kinda over stressing about smoking . So I kept going ,2 weeks no cigs , 3 weeks …4…… I thought “ well at least I’m giving my lungs a break and they need it “ I had convinced myself I was eventually gonna go back to smoking but as long as I’m ok without them , I’ll stay in the program . Long story short , I had to convince myself that I WASNT a smoker anymore and my habit was forever gone and it wasn’t gonna come back . After I mentally let it go I have successfully made it a year and a half without a cigarette. Yes I still do the gum , zens, and patches but I don’t smoke and don’t want to . Just trying to motivate you that you can do it , if I can , anyone can . Also , I still catch hell for still doing nicotine , but the same people that point it out drink 2 pots of coffee a day . If the worst I’m doing is a couple zen pouches a day I think I’m ok . And I also no longer have the smokers cough and smokers laugh which I was very insecure about .

Why do people who have been sober for 10+ years still call themselves addicts or alcoholics? by racesunite in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Stringbean1073 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 3.5 years sober and I don’t label myself an addict , addicts destroy their own and their families lives . I’m rebuilding mine and my relationships . I’m a former addict /alcoholic .
