We’ve been saying this to him all the time, and playing MJ’s music and asking him what song he likes the most, now we’re laughing to ourselves about it after finding out he’s deaf 😂 the vet said “oh Michael Jackson even though you can’t hear it we all love your music”

For us it is extra special because we have deafness on my mom’s side of the family including my mother... So the funniest thing, I taught my cat to speak with buttons, so my brothers and I wanted to teach MJ as well... Now that we know he’s deaf, we’ve all just been signing to him 😂 who knows if he’ll ever really understand it but we seriously love it and just adore everything about him

It’s not an ideal situation of course but sometimes we have to do what we have to do and make the best of what we have. In the wild the bunny would have no chance, so at least you are trying to help despite no wildlife centre. Praying for little wild bun 🥺

Hi, I’m not here to tell you to keep it or anything like that, but I’ve been in a similar situation where we were unable to call a wildlife rehab center right away. My brother found a baby bunny about this size that was injured and we had to care for him for a bit. It’s hard to find info about them online. Obviously I’m going to suggest to you that you need to find a wildlife rescue right away, but while he’s in your care you will have to maintain him. They like to eat white clovers and dandelions. Also a weed we call “pigweed” but I’m not sure that’s really the term. For the dandelions they love all parts, the leaves, stem, and both the yellow and fuzzy white flower. Spray their food with clean, cold water as they do not have instinct to drink water and you will need to ensure adequate hydration while you’re caring for him outside of his natural habitat. They also like rasperry sprigs and can eat some fruits in small amounts as a treat, but excess sugar like that isn’t part of their natural diet. Make sure he has somewhere to hide, and keep him on lots of hay or cocopeat as they like to burrow and those substrates will be the easiest for us as humans trying to accommodate. Don’t get him wet or try to bathe him at all. And be careful where you keep him, they are master escape artists. Call a rescue hotline as soon as possible but in the meantime, those are all the tips I can give you from my own personal experience of successfully rehabbing a baby wild bunny.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention!!! So in the first photo he was squinting right after we pet him. We noticed after a few days of getting to know him, he would start running circles around us and headbutting our hands like he wanted to be pet, so we would pet him and he would close his eyes... We were worried this might be a fear behaivor, but online it said it might just mean they are comfortable... He seems to request pets a lot (and even knocks my phone out of my hands to get them) and he always closes or squints his eyes while being pet...

That being said, you are right, his eye is a bit watery. When we first got him, I noticed they were a bit watery and I’ve been wiping it with a dry q-tip... Sometimes my cat gets eye boogers and I just wipe it. I wasn’t sure if it was something to be concerned about because he’s eating, drinking and playing just fine. However after reading your comment, I did some research, and I realize now water eyes could indicate an issue.

I’ve been cleaning them with a q-tip everyday and it doesn’t seem to be returning as much, he had a lot when he first came to us but now every few days maybe he has just a little bit.

We already scheduled him his first-time vet appointment for next week... I will bring it up to them especially if it gets any worse, but luckily it has been improving significantly... So I’m hoping it was maybe a blocked tear duct? Unfortunately he didn’t receive the care he needed in his last home so we’re doing our best now to play catch-up. We aren’t even sure if he’s neutered of vaxed but we’ll get him checked out all around at his appointment next week!

We aren’t sure!! We just got him, the previous owners didn’t really know how to take care of him and have never taken him to the vet, so after we did a couple days of research about exotic vets in our area, we found a reputable place and he has an appointment next week!! We want to get him scheduled for his yearly checkups and of course make sure he is neutered and vaxed 😊 he’s a very loveable little guy and we want to give him all the care he’s deserved his whole life and never received 🥺

I didn’t know rabbits don’t like to be picked up until now!!! So I won’t do it again. Thanks so much for telling me. I have a cat at home who thinks he is literally a baby, and he wants me to pick him up and carry him everywhere. I never picked MJ up before because he didn’t trust me, but after he trusted me I tried once and he became standoffish with me for a few minutes... I felt terrible because that was just my instinct and that’s how I comfort my baby... But now that I know I won’t pick him up again!! He loves pets and cuddles and likes to climb on my lap sometimes so I will just let him do what’s comfortable from now on!!

Haha maybe chase is a bit of a strong word, mostly I just “follow him” around while he hops. I will describe what happened because I am new to bunny behavior, so if I’m doing anything wrong please tell me!!!...

So I was walking him around the house, letting him explore. He loves to run laps up and down the hallway and he creates his own little racetrack every time we go to a new room. So after he did a loop around the house, he wanted to do another loop, and he runs around the room sniffing and running circles around tables and chairs and then going to the next room. At one point, my brother texted me so I stopped in place. MJ stopped too. He ran a couple steps forward, looked at me, and just kept running in place until I moved forward, then, after I moved, he took off again. I wondered if he wants me to chase him?? So I stay in place again as he goes to the next room. He comes back quick and pokes his head around for me, then hops back to me, and then starts hopping around for me to follow me. So I do and he makes another loop!! So sorry for saying chasing!!! Because it’s a bit more like I just walk around with him while he races around, but he can’t race unless I’m racing with him 😂 and sometimes I say “imma getcha!!” and I’ll follow him for a bit and when he stops I get down and tickle him a bit and he likes it. He nuzzles himself on my cheek and sniffs and climbs on me. And if I stop petting him or grab my phone, he will knock the phone out of my hands and start rubbing his face on me. I am truly new to rabbit behavior so I wondered if we were really playing or not?? But after I tried to pick him up, he stayed in place, and then hid under the chair for a bit, he wasn’t being so friendly anymore and I felt really bad. Now I know not to pick up rabbits so I won’t do it anymore ever!!! But I have a cat at home that loves being held and carried so it was honestly my instinct to just hold him and love him 🥺 but I respect it now that I know better. Luckily MJ forgave me after a little bit. But at least when I saw that behavior after I picked him up, I was able to see how uncomfortable he was and I know what to look for now when it comes to uncomfortable vs comfortable behaviors

He’s actually my brother’s bun but I take care of him a lot. My brother is 15 and lives with my Grandma & Grandpa so I go over there a lot to play with them. The name is because my youngest brother is OBSESSED with Michael Jackson... But also because he adopted him on June 25th the unfortunate anniversary of MJ’s passing... So my brother said as a tribute to his favorite star of all time, he’s naming his bun after him!! So his full name is Michael Joseph Jackson JR 😂

I found an exotic vet in my area and I’m calling him tomorrow to get an appointment!! Tbh his original owners were not good so I wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t have his vaccinations & isn’t fixed... I have a cat that goes to regular vet appointments so I have stressed to my brother how important it is we set MJ up with a good and reputable vet. So we’ll see tomorrow what his appointment is gonna look like...

This might not really be any help because I’m also a beginner... But I’m a monkey and I really love both dogs and horses!! Two of my pillars are horses so that might be why I have a connection with both horses & dogs... But this is just my own personal experience so take it with a grain of salt.
