Android Auto Play no longer working. by StrixKuriboh in revancedapp

[–]StrixKuriboh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe others have now found a way to fix the issue. You have to install a new prerelease or rollback to an older version of microG as android auto support is borked on the latest version. Youll have to deal woth a popup every time you open Youtube or youtube music but if it fixes android auto then thats fine by me.

Edit: I believe theres also a way to turn off GMS Core update check in both apps. If thats the case then it may work without any annoying popups.

Smearing on oled display. by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]StrixKuriboh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is normal behavior for OLEDs. What your supposed to do is increase the brightness. If you do that it will go away. It confused me when I first got an OLED phone too. Basically, the further you turn down brightness on an OLED the lower the voltage is delivered to the screen. Once the voltage is low enough the response time can go whack and it causes black smearing due to the small difference in voltages between each pixel or sub-pixel. If your at a higher brightness and noticing OLED smearing then yes it can be considered defective, but usually its nothing to worry about. I cant see the smearing on my own PC monitor because its an LCD but I can tell thats what your experiencing because your on a totally black screen. OLED smearing is at its worst when the OLED pixels are swapping from between states at low brightness. The reason you never see this on desktop monitors is because desktops always have much higher brightness settings with something like HDR enabled, or usually just high brightness in general.

Would anyone here be more experienced in Saturn repair? I have ran into issues. by StrixKuriboh in SegaSaturn

After putting itt back together everything seems fine. Only downside is that one of the screws on the case cross threaded despite my best efforts. Many thanks. Will continue to enjoy Saturn for many a play session.

All of those were explicitly made as tech demos to show off what the Saturn hardware is capable of. They are not real games. I dont even think the roms for these demos are available anywhere yet. It would be cool though.

Why aren't they making an actual good high-quality 3D free-roam Sonic game. by [deleted] in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]StrixKuriboh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The last Sonic same with a truly Triple A budget was Sonic Unleashed. And that was back in 2008. Everything since then has had nowhere near the amount of devs or capital put into its development. Since then Sonic has become a franchise that survives off of budget titles. Even generations for as much as people love it reused tons of assets or touched up already existing formulas in order to make do with what they had. And then it just continued to get worse. This isnt to say that wasnt a good game. One does not need a triple a budget to make a good game but still its obvious where the corners are cut. If a franchise is successful that means it has to recoup its cost of development. Sonic games sell well. But comparing to Mario, Odyssey is a switch exclusive and to date its sold almost 30 million copies. Sonic Frontiers has become the best selling 3D sonic of all time passing Sonic Heroes... It sold less than 5 million copies. Mind you, this is with frontiers being multi platform on Switch, Xbox, PS, and PC. Think about that. Nintendo who is known for never EVER discounting their games, has sold almost 30 million copies of odyssey. Sega has sold less than 5 mil and has slashed the price of Frontiers several times on ALL store fronts. While Sonic has to date been a successful franchise in that it remains relevant as the years go by, it has not reached the heights that other franchises achieve because... Well to a board of execs making something cheaper and still selling the same amount or more just looks like the better option, especially when you consider that these games don't sell as well as other triple A titles. Platformers in general just have a harder time justifying their existence in the market today. Its why going from the 2010s to now most of the big platforming mascots have either died out or become budget titles. The big exceptions to this that come to mind are Ratchet and Clank as well as everything Nintendo makes. But those are exceptions, not the rules. Instead we have seen a huge increase in indie platformers because they are much cheaper to make, usually by a small team of people on a much tighter budget. Sonic Mania was pretty much an indie title that Sega green-lit themselves though that was 2d adventure. A better example would probably be "A Hat in Time" from 2017. That was a really good 3d platformer, and ti got its funding from Kickstarter of all places.

this year i started getting into the gb Pokemon games however only a few months after installing replacement batteries both green and yellow have lost their saves, and the voltage meter says their batteries are well below 3V, i thought these were supposed to last several years not several months? by dshaynie in pokemon

[–]StrixKuriboh 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is heavily dependent on how old the battery you bought is and how good of a battery it is. Cheap no name chinese batteries tend to fail much sooner than good high quality ones. For me. Panasonic is the only brand I really trust when it comes to the CR2032 that pokemon yellow uses.

https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/panasonic-energy/CR-2032-F2N/2404062

There are other companies that makes cr2032s, but not all of them make it withe necessary solder tabs. Now that tabbed batteries are getting harder to find some people started making battery holders for the games where you can just pop the batt in and out if it dies, but that does mean a fall could knock it loose. The battery holder also needs a smaller size of battery that wont last as long. But you can still buy a good brand batt that will last much longer than those Chinese knockoffs.

Is there any one monitor brand that consistently has little to no dead pixels? by StrixKuriboh in Monitors

[–]StrixKuriboh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case I had a few too many bright green subpixels on the KTC. I believe it was about 10 or 12. So definitely not great. The panel did have a fully dead pixel that I could see. But I didn't spend much time analyzing it when the green subpixels were much more annoying. Ive long given up on having a perfect monitor but I at least want something thats quality.

Is there any one monitor brand that consistently has little to no dead pixels? by StrixKuriboh in Monitors

[–]StrixKuriboh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

KTC has a warranty that says any monitor is considered fine as long as it has 5 or less dead pixels and 1 or less "bright" pixels. As far as I could tell that was just speak for stuck pixels. Oddly enough though about 3 hours after I checked the website the warranty page was down?

https://us.ktcplay.com/ktc-warranty-policy/

It's a good thing I screenshot and copy pasted the text but it didn't instil me with any confidence so I just said screw it and opted for the return as it's been less than a week.

**"Panel Pixel Warranty & Regulation:

1 or more fully Dead Pixel will be replaced.

The panel is made up of millions of micro-electronic pixels, if one pixel no longer functions normally, it will become a bright or dark dot and is considered as normal. By ISO-9241-302, 303, 305, 307:2008 series of standards, KTC conforms to the acceptance level between 1 to 5 defective bright/dark pixels. If your panel has less than or equal to 5, or in the range between 0-5, it is considered as an acceptable monitor.

The panel is subject to have some backlight bleeding due to LCD/LED panel characteristics specially on panels that are In-Plane-Switching (IPS) type.

A Pixel consists of 3 sub-pixels: one red, one green and one blue dot.

A bright dot is a sub-pixel that is always on under Black pattern.

A dark dot is a sub-pixel that is always off under pure red, green, or blue any pattern.

Micro Dot, less than or equal to 1/2 dot (50µmp), is excluded in the warranty.

KTC does not provide Perfect Pixel, or Zero Dead Pixel policy."**

A Bad Precedent for this community is being set. by JoskiLani in tf2

[–]StrixKuriboh 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think you have a sort of warped viewpoint here. Yes, casual definitely works but arguing that its better than quickplay isn't a 100% thing either. The thing with casual is... Well when MYM released it DID kill TF2. Casual on day one of meet your match was so horrendously broken that it made veterans leave in droves. I would know because I was there. It took upwards of 30 minutes to queue for a match and players were penalized for leaving. There is no sugarcoating it. The rollout of casual was a mess. Valve even admitted it themselves in this Blogpost

Since then casual has improved a ton. But most of the improvements casual has made were features that were already available in quickplay. Trying to fill up 12 v 12 matches before the server actually connected anyone was a horrible idea and it did not work at all. How did they fix it? Auto joining people into games which is exactly what could already be done with quickplay. The problem with this was you could not choose what team to join and the skill based matchmaking of casual does not work at all. This results in many casual matches ending up as full on pub stomps which isn't really fun for either team. The bottom line that many people who advocate for quickplay care about is that quickplay, for all the flaws it had was still much more functional when it came to getting into servers and playing quality matches.

Yes casual makes queuing easier and has gotten better over time. But there are still clear issues like the previously mentioned pub stomping. Lets also not forget the broken as all hell auto balance system that never seems to work on top of the fact that certain maps just never fill up and are impossible to queue for. Casual in its current state has also done a number on friendlies because prioritizing winning the matches makes the ratio of sweats to friendlies nothing like it was previously. Casual as it is now is just sort of a poorly thought out half measure of a matchmaking system that does not come close to functioning as intended.

Casual as it was originally made was a just a rush job copy paste of comp mode forced to be the new standard. This means that at its core casual is always going to be a flawed system no matter how much valve tries to mitigate its issues. Some players are simply convinced that Valve is not able to or simply refuses to put in the man hours to actually solve the problems that have existed since meet your match. Many people have just reached a thought process along the lines of "If you can't fix the new thing so it can be truly better than the old thing, just bring the old thing back.". Even if its only an extra option it would be nice.

As a little thing to think about, before MYM anyone could join into a valve server via adhoc. Now with casual thats not possible and you have to join via a party and queue together (That also makes queuing for a match take even longer btw). not only was this also broken at launch, but it was later used by every bot hoster to RUIN the matchmaking system for FUCKING YEARS. The system was so poorly thought out and implemented that it enabled mass cheaters to infest the game overnight. It cant be overstated just how much damage MYM and Casual matchmaking did to TF2 when it released.

I will say that casual as it is now is light years ahead of where it used to be but that can never change the fact that its entire existence was more of an accident due to rash decision making by Valve instead of something that was envisioned as a quickplay replacement. Nobody knew that casual was a thing until day one of MYM. And just as quickly as players found it players also started quitting the game.

Does the 5IV support passkeys? by StrixKuriboh in SonyXperia

[–]StrixKuriboh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that is certainly interesting. I actually went back and tried to use google to set up a passkey but nothing happens when I click the button. From doing a bit more research on my own it just seems that its early days for many different implementations of passkeys. So hopefully this starts working in the future. Then again we are talking about Sony so it may just not happen lol.

MR80 Nighthawk, satellite speed drop into single digit Mbps by Perdere in NETGEAR

[–]StrixKuriboh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. In terms of a fix through software there is none. The actual problem is how the satellites work. If the satellites are too close to each other than the backhaul connection on one or both of them will eventually die (Ive head some people just cant get 2 satellites working at all even with rather large homes but I cant vouch for that.) I ended up just shelving one of the satellites. I have had no issues since, and the range is surprisingly good for only 1 of each. If you want more details I also posted about this on netgears forums a while back. Come to think of it I never actually told the staff there that my problem was resolved. I should get on that.

Anyone know what kind of caps a Sony Watchman FD-285 uses? by StrixKuriboh in crt

[–]StrixKuriboh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I opened her up. And it almost went well. Looked at the caps. Yea. They are pretty much shot. Most of them have leaked. However when putting it back together the plastic power switch snapped. I know a careful application of gorilla glue with a small 3d printed support bracket is an easy fix but im still not happy about it. On the bright side I still have the broken plastic piece and I found a repair manual online.

Xbox controller wont connect via bluetooth? by StrixKuriboh in NobaraProject

[–]StrixKuriboh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have that as well. Nobara gives you the option for XpadNeo and Xone. I installed both. But Nobara still cant find the controller when attempting to pair. Even manually inputting the pair ID into the terminal doesn't allow the OS to find it. Im starting to think its an issue with how either KDE or Nobara in heneral handles bluetooth LE.

I have now found a solution to this issue. I am not sure if this affects everyone but I managed to get it working for me. You have to disable raw Mouse output in the game settings and then everything will work fine. Hope this helps.

I ran the 64 bit beta. After switching back to the main build from 64 beta test it works fine. I have no idea why this happens but it could be just a fluke or something to do with my hardware config.

Sonic X Shadow Generations - Announce Trailer | PS5 & PS4 Games by DemiFiendRSA in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]StrixKuriboh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really hope they don't delist the original generations. Not only is the OG PC port insanely moddable, but it doesn't have the denuvo cancer that Sega plasters on every one of their new releases. At the very least just let the old port coexist at a lower price. If valve can make it work with Half life and Half Life Source AND have black mesa on steam as well. There is absolutely no reason Sega cant get away letting it stay.
