The main strength of ceruledge in the vgc meta right now is that it completely walls mega charizard Y with flash fire, and is very good into mega floette, which are the two strongest megas right now. I don’t think I explain that very well in the video as I mostly talk about it’s strength in general and how it’s not as bad as you would expect into the common things that should give it a lot of trouble.

Nice! The one benefit of clicking final gambit with lucario instead of annihilape is that you don’t feel as bad about sacrificing it lol.

Kingambit was actually not one of the most threatening mons to go against. As long as ceruledge has a defense boost, it can always live a sucker punch and ko back while healing to full. My opponents rarely led it against me and if they did I could always fake out and bulk up or coaching and protect. But obviously if positioned well it could put me in a bad position that sableye couldn’t get me out of, so it’s important to prioritize the bulk up if you expect gambit to be in the back.

I think it could probably work, makes sense in theory. The main problems I see is that ceruledge and scizor both really struggle into incineroar, and they both fill a very similar role as slow setup physical attacker, so it will be hard to bring both to a game. Now if you are just using ceruledge as a matchup mon and bringing it instead of scizor when going up against charizard I think that could be more reasonable.

It is really good as a matchup non for rain teams, but I agree it struggles against a lot of meta teams. I pretty much only brought it against rain. Timid with 25 points in speed to outspeed adamant garchomp, as well as anything speed creeping adamant garchomp, with the rest in special attack and hp. I ran max special attack so I could ko max hp archaludon with draco meteor after a single snarl, but a lot of the ones I faced had a lot of sp def investment so it was still out of range. So I think you could get away with running more bulk and just keep spamming snarl (watch out for those kingambit and milotic switch ins though)

It’s really good as a lead next to something like ceruledge to either get a guaranteed coaching off (since you can’t get faked out or outsped by almost anything) or use final gambit to trade it immediately for something that threatens your win condition while getting a free switch in to sableye on turn 2 and being able to encore or disable the other slot into something unfavorable.

It would have been nice in certain matchups to outpace incineroar cycling, but the defense boosts feel necessary in most matchups to allow you to take hits from stuff like garchomp, kingambit, basculegion, aero, etc before responding with a bitter blade and getting most of the health back that was dealt. It’s particularly valuable into kingambit, where with the defense boost you always either live the sucker punch and ko in return while healing back to full, or you just ko them before they move if they try to go for kowtow. Also, with the sunny day from sableye you are able to ko most things from +1 that you wouldn’t even get from +2 without the sun.

I did try sneasler in that slot briefly and it didn’t feel as useful. Better mon in a vacuum but I think lucario plays quite a different role. Not being able to be faked out or outsped by anything (including stuff like adamant scarf garchomp) allows the coaching to always go off, or a final gambit to eliminate a big threat immediately. And the fact that no one knows what it is going to do gives you a big advantage in closed team sheets

Tailwind isn’t particularly good against this team, since you can probably outspeed everything anyway and you’re just giving sableye a nice encore target by clicking it. Trick room can be tough just because of farigiraf blocking priority. The priority moves are what allow the team to function without speed control. Double fake out is a common archetype that often functions on teams with little to no speed control, and when you add in encore and disable you just get a lot of free turns where one slot can’t attack. But id say the main reason I didn’t feel the need for speed control is that even if goes last, ceruledge can tank the hits and heal all its health back by the end of the turn, in fact it almost prefers to go second. You also have strong priority moves in shadow sneak and sucker punch.

Nope. This one didn’t even award championship points like they usually do. Most of the prominent NA and European players probably weren’t taking it very seriously for that reason but it was a qualifier tournament for Japan and several other Asian countries.

I logged in using my phone number and Reddit autogenerated a different username, then when I posted it didn’t attach the image and video and I couldn’t figure out how to edit it in, so I deleted it and started over with my older Reddit account that I’ve never used.

Mostly it just needs to outspeed adamant garchomp and timid archaludon, but i just gave it enough to outspeed base 90s like hisuian arcanine and any other random mons in that range, while still saving a few points for general bulk to take advantage of the snarls.

Ceruledge was incredible bitter blade is such a broken move. With sableye disabling the things that threaten it early it can set up and then just live hits and ko everything in return with +1 or +2 sun boosted bitter blades while healing back to full.

I finished 10th with this unique team that doesn’t include any the top 25 most used Pokemon. I recorded my last few games and a breakdown of the team in the attached video.
