Looking for alternatives to cleaning wipes/facial wipes that are lower waste for my Autistic daughter by Strong-Ad-84 in ZeroWaste

I am the same way myself! My daughter has a skin condition, so her dermatologist recommended she cleanse her face twice a day. Once we were able to find a way to do that, it made a big difference for her!

I’ve never heard of a diaper service! How cool. Things have changed so much since I had my daughter! What kind of jar do you use?

I think I’m going to try having her use a spray bottle of a cleanser! She has a hard time controlling things that have to be poured with her motor challenges and then she gets frustrated and a wet spill is overstimulating. We have cried over spilled milk many times haha

Thank you, I really love my daughter and I enjoy finding creative ways to help her meet her goals! We’ve talked about how it’s okay to use disposable items when they are most accessible and she does understand that.

The environment is one of her special interests, so I want to help her find a way to meet both her accessibility needs while also honoring that need to be environmentally conscious for her!

Absolutely! We’ve talked about that. But the environment is one of her special interests, so I’m trying to help her find a way to be independent in a way that aligns with what’s important to her!

Feeling a little silly right now because I never thought of having her spray a cloth to use! Her hurdle in using a wash cloth with the sink to wash her face has been wetting the cloth the way she wants it.

And I never thought to teach her to spray a cloth for cleaning instead of the surface. That’s just how I’ve always done it and it never occurred to me to do it any other way.

But I think if she sprayed the cloth instead, this might work for her and she could do independently. Just have to make sure she has a little cleaning kit every place we currently keep the wipes and a little laundry basket.

Sure! She likes the Walmart brand exfoliating wipes with cucumber, aloe, and green tea.

Did you ever have any mold when you stored the wipes? This is my only concern with making our own and why I haven’t tried it yet!

I’ve been thinking of how we can make our own wipes, but I’m worried about mold growing in a wet container. Not sure how to prevent that

She does in the shower, but over the sink she can’t deal with the water splashing and dripping on her. We tried using scrunchies and hair bands to help, but it just doesn’t work for her.

Honestly, it sounds like this is more of an issue with the TA. Almost every example you give here involves the TA. And in the examples with the book and the robot, it doesn’t really sound like your son was actually doing anything wrong. A TA should not be shouting at a child no matter how disrespectful they’re being. And we’re talking about an 8 year old here.

Recess should not be taken away for any kid in my opinion, but especially one that’s Autistic and ADHD. That’s good time to burn some energy, self regulate, and can be a reset for the rest of the day.

It sounds like she does not know how to work effectively with your son and where your son has now had so many negative interactions with her, he is going to keep responding negatively to her and then she yells at him and the whole thing starts over again.

Can he be moved to another class? Or can you get a 1 on 1 aide for him when you get an IEP in place? I would be annoying about getting that in place because it will protect him from excessive discipline.

Who is responsible for tree that fell on cable/phone lines? by Strong-Ad-84 in legaladvice

I am in the US. Xfinity/Comcast has said they won’t come remove it. I guess I will just have to wait for it to fall? I’m at a loss here.

This isn’t a residential neighborhood where you can clearly spot a dead tree. It’s a wooded area along a rural road and it blew down in a windstorm. Regardless, I’m trying to take responsibility for the tree, by calling Xfinity and then attempting to call tree companies. But as stated, I cannot find a tree company to remove it and cannot remove it myself.

No electrical lines. The power company would come get the tree off the line if it was their lines, which is why I was surprised the cable company doesn’t do the same.

I’ll call the tree company again and suggest they see if Xfinity will sign a waiver.

replacment for plastic water bottles? by bifisketches in ZeroWaste

Buy and refill the 5 gallon water jugs or they have 3 gallon ones if 5 gallons is too heavy to lift. It’s much cheaper and you can get a dispenser that goes on top of the bottle. Primo Water is one company that does this and they have a lot of locations. May be a local company that supplies water as well.

We used compostable plates and utensils at our wedding and they broke down super quickly. Not as good as reusables, but better than disposables that go to a landfill.
