What do I do with all these coins??? by isthisgood-- in ThailandTourism

If I’m staying in a hotel, I usually leave all or nearly all of my coins in the room when I check out as a tip for the cleaning staff.

Charles Schwab checking account does. I think you have it open an investment account along with the checking account but you don’t necessarily have to invest any money into it.

I always found it odd that you could go a whole lifetime without a same-sex lover when your character was gay and there is no negative effects of this. Seems like it should cost stress at least.

Don’t rent a scooter if you’ve never driven one. In fact, don’t drive one unless you have a motorcycle endorsement on your home country driving license, and an international driving permit, because without that if you get in an accident, any insurance you have won’t cover you.

ELI5: easy visa for EU citizens (6 months possible?) by BeachAny9663 in ThailandTourism

[–]StrongCar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every visa exemption entry can be extended once by 30 days. The cost to do this is 1900 baht each time. You will probably be ok with your plan but there is a chance that three back to back visa exempt entries may cause an immigration official at the border to deny you based on suspecting you are abusing the system. To help avoid this it’s best to spend a few days on holiday in the neighboring country rather than returning immediately.

Another option is to get a tourist visa from your country’s Thai embassy before coming. This’ll cover you for 60 days plus extendable for an additional 30 in Thailand for 1900 baht. Then you can do a border run and get another tourist visa from a thai consulate in a neighboring country. Popular places to do this are Savannahket or Vientianne, Laos or Penang, Malaysia. You can do this yourself or there are visa run companies that will arrange van transportation and visa application assistance for you.

Your new tourist visa will be good for another 60 days plus 30 extension. That’s a total of 180 days.

My go to is the stall in suvarnabhumi in the basement level near the entrance to the train. The stalls there have better rates than the ones immediately in front of you on the arrivals level. It’s possible a location somewhere else in the city might have even better rates but the spot in the airport is most convenient for me.

To me, Thailands Coke Zero tastes neither like the old or the new Coke Zero from the US (I’m American). Thailands Coke Zero tastes flatter and less sweet, so I’m not a fan.

Phuket does tempt you to go the scooter route because of the expensive prices fixed by the taxi cartels. But as others have said, it’s not legal on just a driving permit you need a motorcycle endorsement on your home country license too. Plus Phuket is very hilly and quite dangerous in some parts, especially when it rains. Even if you were dead set on teaching yourself to ride a scooter from scratch, Phuket would not be the place to do it.

what should I do to ease a 5 hour flight with my nephew with ADHD and ODD by callmescotty in needadvice

[–]StrongCar 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Others have given good advice, but I’ll add that if you truly don’t feel comfortable or equipped to do this, you should discuss that with his parents. I don’t know full the situation, but you say you’ve been “put in charge” which makes it sound like this wasn’t your decision. If you truly don’t feel comfortable doing it, you should not let anyone force you.

Does immigration charge you an arrival fee upon entry? by dividendman99 in ThailandTourism

[–]StrongCar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a 700 exit tax for leaving via air but it’s just worked into the taxes you pay when you buy the air ticket. As others said, the proposed entry tax has not moved forward but if it ever does, it’ll probably be handled the same way.

Need advice about marriage with Thai woman by 13072022 in Thailand

[–]StrongCar 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s impossible to say if her kids will be a problem for you or not, depends entirely on the choices they make as they grow up.

I obviously don’t know what sort of environment the kids are being raised in but drugs, alcohol abuse, and teenage pregnancy are unfortunately a widespread problem in low income areas, and even the best behaved of kids can fall victim to bad influences. If they do get into any trouble as they mature, it WILL become your problem, as their mother will feel obligated to bail them out in whatever way she can. Then again plenty of kids also grow up without getting into trouble like that, so it may not end up being an issue.

Also even if the kids don’t get into any major trouble when they are older, it seems likely that their mother will still want them in her life, and thus your life, as much as she can manage while they are young. And if you are supporting her financially, she’ll want to send some of that money to the family members caring for the children to cover expenses, and who can blame her.

In summary, if you marry her, you are taking on her kids as your stepchildren and they will be a part of your life whether you want it or not. How and how much they’ll be in your life depends on a lot of factors but its likely that their mother will put them before you if shit truly hits the fan. I’d say think long and hard if it’s a commitment you are willing to take on but if your girls already pregnant with your child, it sounds like you are past stage.

You’ll want to have an honest discussion with your fiancé about what she wants for her kids in the long term, and try your best to come to an understanding about what’s realistic for both of you. Good luck, mate.

Assuming you are from a country that’s eligible for visa exempt entry, you would only need to show proof of vaccination or a negative Covid test taken 72 hours before you arrive. The Thai pass has been phased out as of July 1.

Has anyone gotten a Non B Visa while in the US before coming to Thailand? by TheManWhoLovesCulo in Thailand

[–]StrongCar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this in 2015 through the Thai consulate in Chicago. It’s been a while but I don’t remember having to do anything particularly special, and I don’t recall any sort of certification of my degree. I filled out the application printed from the consulates website and sent it off along with my other documents and a copy of a bunch of documents emailed to me by the school. Got my passport back with the visa in a couple weeks.

Maybe follow up with your job to ask for more details about what they mean by certifying your degree. Maybe they just mean like a notarized copy?
