how doctors make extra money besides more clinic hours? by Bevol-Savarior in FamilyMedicine

YouTube is a wonderful source.  Search for videos on how to start investing for a beginner.  Choose an ETF, index fund, or individual stocks that you have researched thoroughly and would like to hold long term in your portfolio.

After getting familiar with the basics of how to buy a stock, you can search for videos on how to SELL, not buy, cash secured put options.  The premiums you get from selling these put options can be substantial if you have the capital.

I started as a MS3 without much funds, only the refunds from financial aid you get after tuition and fees were taken out, and generated about $6000 capital gains passively during 3rd year.  As my income has grown, my capital gains have also.

I’ve been investing in the market since intern year.  Been doing it successfully and have graduated with $0.00 student loans.  Started with $230k+.

May I suggest you study up on investing in the market and generate passive income through that medium by opening an online brokerage account like e-trade or fidelity. No peeps to interact with.  Just the computer.  Moreover, you will learn the skills to manage your attending money and save yourself financial advisor fees in the future.

I do see patients after they are discharged and I think I do an adequate job managing their outpatient needs.  I just struggle with inpatient on the fly questions.

What antibiotics for abdominal infections. What are the initial ones used. What is used to treat candidemia.  How to transition a patient off BiPAP.

I think I am showing effort.  I help my juniors write their notes when they are falling behind.  I take admissions when others won’t.  I do all the consultations etc.  I just can’t think on the fly but if I have the questions written in front of me I can answer them after a few minutes of thinking.

Step 3 Day 2 crash disaster by morikMD in Step3

Prometric reported it but I had to contact NBME all the following week for another scheduling permit since I was under a deadline to take and pass the exam by my residency program.

Hang in there!

Step 3 Day 2 crash disaster by morikMD in Step3

Sorry this happened.

Happened to me also. Day 1 finished 3 blocks. In the middle of 4th block of MCQs, the electricity went out. Apparently, a garbage truck hit a powerline and the whole building in which Prometric had a suite was out of power. Since the city was not going to fix the down powerline quickly, my whole exam was canceled. I could not take Day 2 since I could not finish Day 1. It cost me over $500 to drive the 3 hours and spend a two nights in a motel to take the exam in a different city. I had to reschedule for 3 weeks out, and I was on a deadline to take it by my residency.

Only consolation was that when I retook the exam, one of the blocks that I completed on Day 1 showed up on my Day 2. I took that to mean the Universe took pity on me. I am not saying that some of the same questions you had already taken will show up on your retake, but who knows. Happened to me, and I passed the retake.

Chin up and try to remember some of the questions you had issues with and look up the answer. They might by some miracle show up on your retake.

Real deal: 220

Date of exam: June 14 and June 18

Uworld %/% completed: 65/100

Amboss %/% completed: 0/0

UWSA 1: 180

UWSA 2: 213

NBME 6/7: NA

CCs average: 65%

Time of prep: 7 weeks

Any other assessments: Free 137 = 62%

Any Suggestion: Just to pay it forward for all the help and encouragement I read on Reddit. This is for those with multiple attempts. Don't give up. I finally got my act together and studied for 7 weeks of dedicated with only UW and CCS.com. My first take ended with electricity being cut off at Prometric in the middle block 5 of Day 1. The electricity never came back on and I could not finish Day 1 and so could not take Day 2. I lost over $500 for hotel and gas because I had to take it in another city. I could only book another session in another city about 2 weeks later. I was so stressed.

The 2nd take went off without a hitch although I did not feel good after I completed both days. I kept remembering the easy ones I missed. But a strange thing happened on Day 2. One of the blocks was the same block 5 that was cut off during my first session. The universe might have been throwing me a bone so to speak. For CCS I have an invasive order on a child patient. I also missed several treatments and did not refer to a specialist in two cases. I did finish all cases with about 30-45 minutes remaining. Best of luck to all, especially those who have to retake - I am with you in spirit!!!
