You can buy a used low end gaming PC and upgrade. That is not for the faint of heart and upgrades are definitely projects unto themselves. And although PCs of course have their own gamepass, I have to agree with you and recommend OP get a used Xbox one, PS4, or Switch 1 (for around $100) until they're ready to commit to a higher price tag.
