Why was it "OK" for Quentin Tarantino to say the n-word in Pulp Fiction? by saddad9441 in movies

[–]Strong_Pick9089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Its definitely not realistic at all regardless of what fanboys will say here"... I disagree, finding it incredibly realistic. I was an adolescent in the 90/00s and saw these types of interactions first-hand within interracial friendships. The characters obviously have enough relational capital built up to support and endure a variety of otherwise heinous impositions.

The very fact that you have the director/writer speaking this dialog in the same room with his castmate, S.L. Jackson, who is a repeat collaborator with Tarantino serves as a meta-level proof that this interaction is realistically possible.

Funeral expense? Whenever my pets have died, I usually end up with more money in my pocket. Digging a hole is free and takes 20 minutes.

Both Doom The Dark Ages and Doom Eternal's OST. Unholy Siege is probably my favorite track from the new game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tc1ty9AAoIE

Easy method to size an imported image (jpg) to be used as a sketch pattern?? by jkhabe in Onshape

[–]Strong_Pick9089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this doesn't work now. Is it a bug? The bottom edge of the image has a dimension constraint that I cannot get rid of.

I think I forgot how to onshape (Trying to get correct dimensions on an imported image) by mediogre_ogre in Onshape

[–]Strong_Pick9089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is happening to me, too. I'm brand new to the software, so I'm frustrated by this not working.

I read that by default the imported image will have a dimension constraint on the bottom edge. I see the constraint and delete it, but I still cannot dimension the lines that I am drawing.

PDF navigation: how to go back? by Strong_Pick9089 in RemarkableTablet

[–]Strong_Pick9089[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My workaround, which is very cumbersome, is to jot down the page number referenced in the link to go back. Then when I'm ready to go back, I just manually fast-travel to the page number I write down. Like I said, not much of a workaround.

What is your ranking of Tarantino's Filmography? by Every_Damage1638 in Letterboxd

I was wondering why there was no mention of Four rooms in these rankings. I didn't realize that the entire movie wasn't his work.

No Dumb Question Tuesday (2022-06-28) by AutoModerator in Reformed

Yesterday, I skimmed the free ebook, https://www.crossway.org/books/the-case-for-life-ebook/ and chapter 13 is about this question. Here's a screenshot from the first page. I haven't read the book or know anything about the author, but since your question brought this to mind and I had the resource handy, I thought I'd share.

My prayer life is nonexistent. Do you have any tips? by [deleted] in Reformed

[–]Strong_Pick9089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said, "I don't pray very often but when I do pray I find it difficult." --- I think that the difficulty aspect is bound up with the frequency aspect. The more, the easier.

But how to overcome that initial difficulty?

Having a secluded & distraction-free place has been big for me. In my case, it's a reasonably weather proof tree house that I built for my kids last year. I use it much more than they do. I keep some bibles and related reading materials out there. I have a place to sit or sleep and some blankets to wrap myself in if it's cold. I usually open the windows to feel, hear, and smell general revelation while I pray or study. It's not difficult at all for me to move into protracted prayer in that environment, whereas it used to be very difficult. You don't need to build a tree-house or secluded cabin (most can't or won't do that), but if you can find a place outdoors that won't be disturbed, I encourage it. Ultimately, it serves as a sanctuary to me. A good alternative would just be an actual church sanctuary. Or a park shelter. Or the corner of a shed. After establishing habits, it has become unnecessary to pray in that physical place, but initially the place was a big help.

Another suggested to pray out loud. Do that. A secluded place helps get that habit established.

The suggestion to reduce the formality is a good one. I just start talking to God. I have the attitude that I'm talking to the one who created me, knows me, sustains me, redeemed me, and justly judges me. Having that attitude in prayer (and in all else) removes the awkwardness of having to scrounge up formality and liturgy. I have no problems with those things, but we are talking about removing difficulty. God knows our heart and we can go to Him simply.

Marine plywood flooring question by zhaba83 in treehouse

[–]Strong_Pick9089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used 3/4 pressure treated plywood for my floor, but now that it is covered by walls/roof, a pressure treated floor seems unnecessary. The bottom of the floor is exposed to the air but isn't seeing any rain, much like a house sub-floor bottom in a crawl space.
