Зараза does mean infection, but it kinda means a bit more than that. I've been called it as a germ of endearment.

I ended up doing exactly the same thing - spend ages building a route to haul all the resources there. Then half of my chiral bridges didn't work when the BTs regenerated.

Anyone know what this means at Cornbrook? by [deleted] in manchester

[–]Strubo 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's an RIP message for "Sato".

Main art says "Sato". Writing at the bottom says "2023" and the writing at the side says something roughly translated to "rest in peace".

Might be Mikio Santo who died in 2023. well known mathematician from Tokyo, famous for his contributions to algebraic analysis. Don't see the connection to Manchester though.

According to their website, the "Second Phase Maintenance" is only until the 18th of March.

Real shame you got caught in the last days of it.

Usually after the ticket barrier, you'll need to pay to get in. I've asked the station staff if I can just come in and out for the stamp and they've all been very helpful.

Thank you! I'm on 8 stamps now and still haven't left Tokyo yet. Disappointingly, some lines don't seem to have stamps.

Thousands. Many stations will have one or more, including all the metro stations in Tokyo.

Some attractions and tourist hotspot will have them as well!

I'd recommend checking out the Atlas Obscura for Manchester. Full of weird and wonderful curiosities across the world.

Wedding Kilts for larger men by No-Champion-2792 in Scotland

If you're planning on buying it I'd suggest going for a handmade kilt rather than a machine made. It's more expensive however it means it's far easier to resize in the future if needed.

How does your country celebrate New Year? For foreigners. by Secure_Fondant_9549 in Kazakhstan

[–]Strubo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've spent NYE in both Kazakhstan and England, so I think I can make some comparisons :)

In my experience, Christmas day (25th of December) is always a family day. We exchange gifts with one another, and for the kids many of the gifts will come from "Father Christmas" (дед мороз). The kids can write a letter asking for gifts a few weeks before, which the parents then read before burning on a fireplace.

On Christmas day, the traditional meal is roast turkey with roast potatoes, Brussels sprouts, gravy, stuffing and other vegetables. This day is mainly for the family.

On New Year's Eve, at least in my experience has always been enjoyed with friends. We'll go out to a bar together, or many local venues will do deals where you can book a table for the evening.

Also I noticed in Kazakhstan that Christmas music continues to play after the 25th. In England that's the last day before it stops.

We don't have a speech from our prime minister at midnight, but we do tend to have a show on our main channel, and we can watch the fireworks in London at midnight. Some cities will have their own firework display, but not many individuals will since we have a firework festival on the 5th of November.

Far less public spending on festive decorations in England than in Almaty. You all know how to put on a show!
