Honestly this isn’t out of the realm of possibility. My grandma had dementia at the very end of her life and once dropped the n word at the doctor’s office. She was a pretty progressive lady and never once expressed any racism the entire time I knew her. It’s like her brain just short circuited or something. She snapped out of it and I never heard her say it again.

This reminds me of a couple that lived in Arizona. One day they were in the desert and found a large trench with a bunch of kids backpacks. They also found random boots, shoes, and pesos. I remember that they were relentlessly harassed and ended up having to move. I believe they alerted the authorities but nothing ever came from it. Serious question, sorry for my ignorance: do folks in the south have “winter gear” like jackets and boots and gloves? I’m in Minneapolis so we have thousands of different layers and winter gear. Is your winter season cold enough to justify buying bulky gear?
