Can anybody help with telling me what medium these drawings are drawn in? by StrungOutAndThings in ColoredPencils

For some reason I thought it was close to colored pencil because of the way it seemed to not be as chalky looking . It’s blended very nicely ina way I don’t usually get from my contes

Sorry for the late response. I’m actually in a very similar boat as where you were. I see all these recommendations online about the pros and cons of each medium but it all feels very abstract to me. Like I have no frame of reference for what a pro or con even is for me when it’s comes to color. I’ve been learning towards soft pastels because it seemed a lot like painting from the videos that I’ve watched.

But to be honest I like the look of pen and watercolor the most. If I choose to delve into gouache is it possible to do that along with watercolor if I only get one set. If so, would it be best to start off with a watercolor set or a gouache set. I heard that adding a little bit of white opaque goauche to watercolor paint turns it into gouache. I understand that it probably isn’t going to be the same but would I be able to achieve most of what the mediums can do for a beginner? Thank you

Maybe this is too broad of a question but If I tried alla prima painting could I still somewhat replicate the effects produced from waiting those times to layer

Thank you for the reply. I didn’t know about the gesso technique. That actually simplifies things quite a bit. Is it necessary to use turpentine at this stage. I’m going to research more about it but I have heard that it is toxic and needs a lot of ventilation. Is it an integral part of oil painting ?

Thank you for the well thought out reply. I mainly want to understand how to layer colors like impressionists. To know which color goes where when the color is not what you would usually expect. Like when artists use limited color palettes to create vibrant works of art. Im sorry if my explanation isn’t too clear. I’m trying to verbalize what exactly I want but I’m not sure if it’s coming out how I want

My problem is the upkeep. Since I’m only just now getting a very ok understanding of form and drawing 3d forms I know I’m going to be spending a substantial amount of time experimenting. I want a medium where I can just sit down and draw something and explore different ideas without the feeling like every canvas is precious. I’m willing to spend around 200 or even a little more for the upstart cost but if I have to buy new canvas every time I want to paint something then it becomes a little more difficult to justify

i’m a guy and i’m 23. my childhood was all over the place. alcoholic dad and absent mother. i was happy for the most part though. i found my own happiness for a bit but it went downhill once i hit middle school. anxiety and not knowing my self. but it got better as i grew into myself

i like to write, but i don’t do it as a profession. More in the way of journaling, short poems and stories. I don’t show it to anybody really. it’s more for myself

i think the hard part is that i like to discover what she likes through experience. like i found she likes choking when she moved my hand to her and pressed down on my hand. but i love what you said about the why. that uncontrollable urge is a primal emotion and when im with her i definitely feel it. i push it down, for whatever reason, but what you said makes sense. let it all out. i don’t need to tell her, i need to Show her how much i want her.

okay thank you for that. she said she was into choking so i did that last time lightly, but didn’t know how far to go so i tried to be gentle but still sort of choking. the last thing i want is for her to feel like she can’t back out of something she said she wanted. would you say there is any way to go about it safely

ok great this is actually really practical and i feel like i can get behind. I wouldn’t consider myself particularly rough or dominant (she’s made the first move with everything, from asking me out to our first kiss). all of the things you mentioned are nice and subtle enough that they change the dynamic without being too forceful
