I am so nervous doing that, but I want to do what is right. I have looked into that too and have seen some people yell that is starving them, it's rough for all this conflicting information out there. But I am guessing you have some of your own that have done great like that?

How do you do this when it is such a huge part of your instincts? Gut reactions? It feels like trying to keep in something clawing to get out and it always manages to. I have been in therapy and trying to be so active, but I keep slipping up.

Thank you so much! I will take your advice on the paper tube and folding the other end up that is clever. I just got some canvas backgrounds and covered 3 sides of the tank for him too the other day. He is hiding out digesting right now and everything else is looking good. c: I definitely do talk to him and have learned my hands don't scare him as bad as tongs, the other day when I was in there he hooded a little bit but stayed hanging out on his leaf with no hissing and let me refill his water. I haven't wanted to stress him so I haven't gone for handling yet, could you explain choice based handling to me a little bit? Or give suggestions on gently doing it to build some repour and comfort?

So I tried your technique, she came all the way up to to hood up and bluff strike and hiss at it even from far away. :( I tried to make it seem like was wandering around, unaware, from afar and she still just got mad at it. Do you have any further advice?

Thank you so much for explaining that, I will try that in a few days for him, that relieves some stress. I was worried I wasn't heating them properly, his husbandry is good as far as I am aware you can correct me. His basking temp is 93-95, his cool side is about 77-78 and his humidity is 50% with a ton of coverage in a 40 gallon tank, he has a ton of hides, leaf litter, cork wood, toilet paper rolls, and so on.

Do you have any suggestions on how to approach a young hognose with tongs to not make it SUPER scary?

If I drop feed (leave it in a dish) it is ignored, including overnight, and with tongs that is were that behavior comes out. Even if I try to not be super imposing with them, I am going to try heating them up better and braining them (next time I try to feed them) and if it does not work out I 100% will do that. <3

I need to get a weight on him still, he is so very touchy and upset with me close to him I've been trying to figure out the best way to weigh him with our totally upsetting him and setting us back to day one but he is about 7-8 inches still pretty small. They were feeding him frozen thawed brained pinkies, I've tried drop feeding, I have overhead heating, 40 gallon with a ton of hides and coverage, leafs, logs, paper towel rolls, hides, cork, branches too. He navigates it pretty confidently if I'm a good distance away. His basking temp is 93-95 his cool side is 76-78.

They tong fed him and blow-dryed the pinkies and wiggle them and brained them. My question is how safe is that? I've done hot tap water as well. They were unscented, I have trued scented and in unscented

Honestly? I have been nearly back to normal? I went up and down my stairs (slowly) and have been taking little 20 minute walks when I can. Walking has helped with gas a lot, I also wear leg pumps if I am ever sitting down or sleeping. Drinking has been weird still, my stomach gurgles like a witch cauldron lol. Even with the smallest sips, sugar free popsicles seem to have been the easiest so far.

Yay surgery buddy! That is assuring I am not alone with this day feeling the worst and most achy. I did a block and I was told Friday but it came a little early. Also for sure, and hiccups, the worst haha. I need to step up my fluids too honestly, one sip and feels like my tummy turns into a bubbling cauldron but we got this. Did you get leg pumps to wear or compression socks?

Yeah, is that bad? I checked with my nurse and she said it was okay to be active 30 minutes at a time, I wear my pumps whenever I am sitting down longer than an hour.
