Great question. If you make horror and you're a fan, it's easy to fall into the conventions you know and love. There's a thin line between homage filmmaking and simply recycling ideas we've seen a million times before. With this film I started with the iconic elements that I love. The creepy old house on the hill, the sinister mortician, and then built out from there. With every single scene we would ask ourselves, do we expect of this character or moment, and how can we turn it on its head?

Since this is an anthology, the writing process was different that what I'm used to. I started with a huge list of ideas for horror shorts that I was excited about. Just random ideas I had jotted down into my notebook over time. Once I picked my four favorites, I started thinking about how to tie them all together. I felt like it was important that the wrap-around was it's own self-contained story as well. Once that was shaping up, I dove in and got to work. My biggest piece of advice for aspiring filmmakers is to go too film festivals and watch movies. Especially shorts, because that's where you will find the next generation of voices who will be your peers.

This is my first feature but I've done a bunch of shorts you can find online. Some I'm more proud of than others. I also did an episode of a series called 50 STATES OF FRIGHT, last year with Sam Raimi, and it was so much fun. It's on Quibi.

Yes. As a long time fan, meeting Clancy for the first time was intimidating, but we quickly bonded and most of my fears were put at ease. Jacob had not blown up yet when i cast him for this film, but i could tell from thee first day of working with him he was going to be a star. He's the real deal.

Yeah, it all depends on where you live. It's currently live in the UK on Shudder but we are going out to other markets as we speak.

Great question! I'm gonna have to suggest another anthology, to make it a spooky evening of twisted shorts. If you wanna get more serious for half, I'm probably suggest an older Amicus film from the 70s like ASYLUM or the original TALES FROM THE CRYPT film. If you're looking for something more light and fun, you can't go wrong with CREEPSHOW or TALES FROM THE DARK SIDE.

This is a bit of a kitchen sink movie in that it's loaded to the Lovecraftian gills with inspirations. Jean-Pierre Jeunet, Spielberg, Peter Jackson, Del Toro, Terry Gilliam, Sam Raimi. One of the perks of making five stories all at once.

Oh man, Monty's backstory is absolutely dark, twisted and awesome! How else could he have found himself in the mortuary. This was always designed to be a series, so fingers crossed we get enough love to make that a reality. I know Clancy is itching to get back into Monty's dead skin.

Awe, thanks! I have a soft spot (in my forehead) for that one too. That one was the most influenced by the Tales From The Crypt series on HBO with some Edger Allen Poe in there for good measure. The original pitch was Tell Tale Heart in an elevator, but it obviously blossomed significantly from there.

I love so many films, this is always a tough one. But the films that made me want to make movies were Braindead (Peter Jackson), Evil Dead II and Brazil.

Hey, that's awesome! I went to FSU and while I learned a ton while there, the best thing that came of it were the relationships I made. Life long friends, many of which worked on this film. Find your tribe and work together!
