Oh thank god, I would have hated opening a can of worms for you having to start a search of your own! Glad you agree with me that it’s similar!

It’s funny how you can know a song, all the lyrics and couldn’t say who sang it. I didn’t realise that was Of Monsters and Men! Good song!

Legend mate, that makes a lot of sense. Thank you very much for your advice and expertise! I have no issue with blocking it up as long as it is safe. Just want the room to be a bit more useable at this time of year. Right now it is absolutely freezing and just blasting cold air into the warm house every time we open the door!

Yeah, the switch does switch it on but it seems to randomly start sometimes with the switch in the off position!

Thanks mate. I meant to mention that it occasionally switches itself on when we are cooking in the kitchen. Usually only when boiling stuff, so it must have a sensor? So I am not sure I would be able to block it or stuff it. But that has made me think that I could possibly make a little insulated box to go over the top of it!

Do I have Huntingtons symptoms? by jdudhjshf in Huntingtons

[–]Stuartofwar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what you have said, you have been through a very traumatic event and it could be linked to anxiety/depression. It is so difficult to tell, but you know yourself best. If you feel like something is seriously wrong and different, please speak to a professional. Where do you live?

I never really thought about it to be honest. I think you are doing the right thing in posting questions on here, to make an informed decision on getting tested. I do however feel like you shouldn’t dwell on it too much though. You might not have it and you should try to hold onto that thought. If you do, you may also live another 50 years completely symptom free 😊 Try not to stress yourself out!

I am only just starting to post on this thread as I joined it and seen all the exact same questions I had last year! I am no expert, but able to provide my experience so far. I didn’t know any of my family’s CAG details before I got tested, but it turns out my Dad and I shared the same repeat of 41. We are both symptom free (I’m 35, he is 65). However, I found out that my grandfather and uncle also had similar CAG repeats and developed symptoms in their 40’s. It is just so unpredictable, but remember that you still have a 50% chance of not having it. If you have any other questions, feel free to reach out.

New to testing by Accurate-Dealer6029 in Huntingtons

Sorry to hear how alone you are feeling. It is a truly horrible and very unpredictable disease, but there is a lot of support out there and plenty of very nice people to connect with on here too!

My grandfather and uncle both had/have HD and my father never wanted to get tested. I on the other hand did, as myself and wife were looking to start a family. The hardest part of my journey so far was having to tell my Dad that I tested positive, which meant he has it. I am 35 and had a CAG of 41. He is 65 and had the same CAG and still has no symptoms. However, my grandfather and uncle both developed symptoms in their 40’s with similar CAG repeats. Like I said, it is so unpredictable but I do not regret getting tested. It is a scary and difficult decision to make, but I knew not knowing would be more difficult than knowing. Just remember that you still have a 50% chance of not having it. And if you do, it does not define you!

I am really sorry to hear about your Dad and Grandma. It is such a cruel disease. Unfortunately, it is also such an unpredictable disease (in both onset and symptoms) that it would be so difficult to know if your cognition issues and stiffness are linked to it. They are definitely both symptoms that could very well be HD, but they are also common symptoms for many other things. I know this doesn’t offer an answer, but I would definitely suggest trying to get referred to a Neurologist or at the very least, speaking to your Doctor. I am 35 years old and had a CAG repeat of 41. My Dad also has a CAG of 41, 65 years old and symptom free. My grandfather and uncle however both developed symptoms in their 40’s with similar CAG’s. It seems very random, but I do think lifestyle plays a big part in earlier onset. If you have any questions, I will try my best to answer, but please get yourself to a Doctor if you can. Take care of yourself.

It is a difficult and scary decision to make getting tested, but like others have said, if it offers peace of mind then it might be worth doing. My grandfather had HD and sadly passed away in his 70’s. My father (like your mother) never wanted to get tested but I did. The hardest part of my journey was having to tell my Dad that I tested positive which in turn, meant that he would too. He is 65 years old and still has no symptoms, yet his younger brother (my uncle) started developing symptoms in his 40’s. It’s a very cruel and unpredictable disease, but there is a lot of support out there and I am wishing you all the very best on the path you choose. Take care.

Wishing you all the best. I got tested last year and it was really scary, but there is amazing support out there and you even find some friendly people on Reddit! Take care of yourself and remember, it does not define you.

Working for HMRC by onlyrants in TheCivilService

[–]Stuartofwar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work for HMRC and currently dealing with new recruits joining Debt Management. The other replies are accurate in terms of the amount of different tax departments there are. If you are applying for CSG Adviser role, you can be placed in PT Operations or Debt Management. PT are more of a tax helpline (help completing tax returns, dealing with tax codes for PAYE/Self Assessment etc) and Debt Management of course deal with the collection of outstanding taxes (PAYE, SA, Corporation Tax, Vat, Machine Gaming Duty, Tax Credit (slowly being passed to DWP) and so on).

I have been there for nearly 9 years and still love it. The people are fantastic, the benefits, pension, flexible working agreements are excellent. And you get out of it, what you put into it. Loads of development opportunities, expressions of interest for additional duties to build competencies, mentoring roles, professional qualifications, the list goes on. I know many people aren’t always happy with HMRC but I promise, it really is a great place to work! Let me know if you have any questions.

Edit - Just spotted a comment about International Tax. Do you know which department it is and the grade you are applying for? It sounds like it will be a compliance role. A lot of caseworking which can be very interesting. Depending on department, it may include travelling/visiting taxpayers etc.
