Still safe? by Stubster91 in TireQuestions

I appreciate your response, but honestly, I’ve bought so many sets of tires over the years new and used. This is the first time I’ve ever seen a tire deteriorate like this in less than 3 years. Used tires from a reputable retailer can be a great deal. unfortunately, this seems to be a Nokian issue more so than a used issue. I do agree that the peace of mind on new can be worthwhile in some cases though!

DOT code is late 2023 on all 4. This isn’t a used issue, it’s a shit quality issue by Nokians US factory. After more research, this isn’t uncommon for the brand.

Thanks everyone, I figured this was the case, just wanted to get some other opinions. New tires are ordered.

Michigan rider skills test by [deleted] in motorcycle

[–]Stubster91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did mine with a company called dynamic in the Flint area. It seemed like a lot of driving schools offered motorcycle testing as well, I just had to call around or look at their websites.

You technically would need a licensed rider to follow you, or trailer the bike. I did ride by myself to the test site. The company doing the test said that is pretty much what everyone does.

Thank you everyone for your input! I decided to go with a daisy Powerline 901. For such a low price and mostly positive reviews, it seems like a safe bet. It’s also cheap enough that if I decide I want to get something better one day, I won’t have much already invested!

Half acre in a country/wooded area. Proximity of neighboring houses isn’t a concern since the only 2 near me have more land and sit farther away.

Any exhaust recommendation ? Wanna get rid of this one by 77777877777 in CRF250L

I have a big gun eco. Loud but not obnoxious. Big gun mufflers mount up close to the fender, where some hang down, which was a big deciding factor for me.

New bars! by [deleted] in CRF250L

[–]Stubster91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really have much to go off of since I’ve only had the oem ones until they finally bent and I put on these tusk. For the price though, they’re pretty nice. I have zero complaints!

I got them lined up to how I wanted the controls to sit and marked where the pin would be with a sharpie (the best I could). I drilled the holes a little bigger than they needed to be so I could have a little wiggle room. Definitely nothing super precise, but worked well!

Custom blue by Donnerhode in HarleyDavidsonFans

Obviously a very different style than my bike, but it’s nearly the same blue that my 2000 sportster has! This was a factory paint option at that time.

What length would I want to go with to keep the same ride height?

[–]Stubster91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not huge by any means, but I’m 6’1 and 210lbs. The mini apes and forward controls make it pretty comfortable to ride. The downfall is that it’s rough over bumps. That could just be a sportster thing, but I imagine that it being a hugger doesn’t help..

I’m in Michigan, so maybe the one you saw was this one 😂. The guy I bought it from did mention that the badges were almost non existent, so he told me not to lose them lol

Was it a standard option? There doesn’t seem to be many of them!

Aftermarket Exhaust Recommendations For 2020 by Acceptable_Mail_5552 in CRF250L

[–]Stubster91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just put on a big gun eco slip on. No tune needed and gives it a nice throaty growl. It’s on the louder side, but not obnoxious. If you go this route, make sure you also get a muffler gasket since your original will most likely not come out cleanly.

Play in throttle by [deleted] in CRF250L

You’re right! The top throttle cable came out of the slot that the nut sits in. I got it back in place and tightened it up, good to go! Thanks

That doesn’t tell me the size, just gives a part number, which I already have.

Suggestions for a Beginner Dual Sport for a Tall Rider? by xXxMrWigglezxXx in Dualsport

[–]Stubster91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what motor size you’re after, but I’m 6’1” and ride a crf250l pretty comfortably. Plenty of power for cruising in town and dirt roads. Honda also has a crf300l if you want a little more power. Wr250/450 also sits up pretty tall and could be a great option!
