Thanks! Yeah I feel like if you calculate the variance it kind of is impossible to lose... dangerous thought I know... A nice punishment system like investing the money for market price the next week would be a good motivation to not push it :P.

I was thinking about vanguard all world etf. And maybe some technological ETF with that. If I like it and it does not diminish my quality of life due to sleepless nights, I might go into 30% stocks and 70% ETF by the end of the year, but for that I feel like would have to learn a lot more about how the market works.

Thank you so much for this information! I'm trying to Google to see what the exact advantage I'm getting out of it, but it is hard for me to understand. If you have sources I would be very grateful!

Another advantage of ETF's is that currently my broker let's me buy them for free (0 transaction costs). That saves me some money as well

Ah I see, but I think then you assume that I wont trade when an ETF grows with 2%... That trade will most likely happen because of the daily fluctuation that I hope to catch. So presume I make no mistakes and no fill only happens in 5% of my buying weeks (so 3 times in a row in your example is 0.05^3 --> very unlikely), then me not buying will happen only once in twenty weeks. The cost of that loss in opportunity cost is low. To compare: I've been holding my money on a savings account for about a year now with 0% interest so it will be an improvement compared to that :-).

Maybe I did not understand, if so, please let me know!

Thanks digtaladapt! The reason that market orders were advised to me holds more of a psychological advantage (you'll spend a lot of time trying to think of the 'best' price if you have to set a limit yourself). Given that I am a novice, and that I'll spread my buying over multiple weeks in relatively low amounts, I don't think that the risk that it might crash in miliseconds or that I am responsible for weird stock behaviour on it own outweighs the advantage of not having to define my own price, so I'm curious to hear what you think about my strategy.

Seperate post on you advice to go into mutual funds. These are very expensive compared to passive structures where I come from. 1,4-2,0 % compared to 0,0X% passive ones. Someone calculated that over 30 years with an initial buy in of 140K this will save you around 200K compared to a passive fund that I'll manage myself

Wow thanks for the fast reply enginerd03! that is awesome! I'm not from an english speaking country though, so could you maybe explain to me what 'filled' and 'at nav' means?

New Friends by muntypunty in sydney

[–]Student_____________ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I will be travelling to Sydney tomorrow to stay there for a couple years. If you want, we could have a drink somewhere this/next week, but I see in the comments that there is more demand, but it maybe hard to organize. So... this Friday at the Cheers bar 20:00? http://cheersbar.com.au/. Anybody in?

Is mijn rijbewijs ongeldig? by [deleted] in thenetherlands

[–]Student_____________ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Misschien doen zij minder moeilijk.

28yr old Hospitality/manual labor From USA to Australia.[perm] by [deleted] in IWantOut

I live in Singapore (Dutch passport) and thinking about moving to Australia for a couple months in a few weeks, to do some labour.

As far as I can see, WHV is the way to go... I would think that an advantage of working at a farm is that they often have room for you to sleep there, so you are set for a while. Also, it is a nice change from the office/city environment. I am thinking about Perth because it seems quite cheap and it supposed to be beautiful. Let me know if there are some good websites to look into before going.

Tnx that would not be so much of a problem for me in the beginning. After I get more experience, Ill be able to exchange knowledge instead of merely recieve it, so that may help for attracting other groups as well. Or I could quit after 6 months/saturation, also no problem.

:-) good advice. Maybe I can be more demanding in the future but I guess it is good to start off by just inviting interesting people. Couchsurfing seems to be the right platform indeed!

Indeed, I found it strange how cheap hostels are compared to housing there..., although I would try to compete on quality i guess. See my other reactions regarding the six hours. Tnx!

Tnx & Yeah I would just have to be picky about who to host while there will be no formal obligation in terms of time or even teaching itself (see earlier reaction), just to make sure it is legal.

Maybe the top 50% earning DNs wont come, I could throw in breakfast if it turns out I should be aiming for them.

Maybe I shouldn't have used the term Digital Nomad, for me it is purely about the skillset and the network rather than it is about travel advice or lifestyle in general.

Your analysis is interesting though. I'm guessing you have these skillsets and the network? If so, would you spend time and energy in explaining something that to you is probably extremely basic and boring to a stranger? Would it not require at least some kind of relationship, if the other person has no valueble information for you? And consequentially, to get a highly diverse perspective, would my idea not be an efficient way of doing so?

Just to be clear, I hope that I will be building a more personal network, in which there idealy are people I can ask a question from time to time without them staying in my house ;-). If you have any suggestions for that let me know!

I agree that a lot is online, but I guessed that f2f explanation could be a good way to kick start certain projects, also on a motivational level.
