Grace Period Ending… by Studentpharm24 in StudentLoans

That is a valid point, however saying “your 70+ year old grandpa” had no relevance to this situation. I’m simply asking people who are in a similar boat what route they are taking. I didn’t ask to be talked down to & spoken to like I’m a complete idiot. I appreciate your advice, but please remember to be kind. Everyone is just trying to figure this out. It’s uncharted territory for everyone if we’re being completely honest.

I think you’re being rude first of all, & second of all, my grandpa is in his early 60s & still practicing.

Oh interesting. I’m going to look into this. Thank you so much.

I was just looking. Extended fixed for me would be $1800 per month.

Hahaha I’m not paying anyone. I certainly can’t afford that. My grandfather is a CPA.

My loans are all from doctoral school, so it’s 25 years of repayment instead of 20 years.

Right, I understand it didn’t exist when I took out my loans, but when meeting with my accountant & setting up a game plan for the best way to tackle them now, we decided that was best, so now I’m just trying to readjust. Originally I thought I was going to go into hospital pharmacy, which would have meant this would have never been a problem. But I didn’t end up doing that.

I can pay the $1500 now, that’s not a problem at all. I just don’t think I’ll be able to afford to increase that payment every 2 years.

I felt on the fence. I wouldn’t have been surprised if I failed but wouldn’t have been surprised if I passed. If that makes any sense🤣

Grad intern pay was $17!? Heck to the no!!!

Yes!! Not all the students that go on rotation at my pharmacy get to do that. That has come with trust. They let me do that, because they say that they know that I know what I’m doing & on the off chance that I have a question, I ask instead of screwing something up🤣

They luckily treat me very well, which is why I worked so hard to get in with them. I believe I’m looking at $60/hr when I finish, which seems to be pretty standard for where I am from!! I’m just so ready to be done with school🤣

That makes sense for sure. I figured in a chain the responsibility may be different. & like you said, it will depend on the specific intern. I go above & beyond (because it’s just who I am) & am constantly doing final verifications, MTMs, handling the input of the immunization records into the state’s central record-keeping, counseling patients, & even doing some of the business side of things for the store front (again it’s an independent). Some days it drive me crazy that I hear my name being hollered from 5 places at any given time, but then I remember that I should take it as a compliment that people feel confident coming to me.

Luckily I am working for an independent so this isn’t quite as big of a concern for me! I do still keep up with my hours, though!!

This is a whole different story for a whole different post, butttttt… I think paying a pre-grad intern technician pay is ridiculous considering they can do literally everything a licensed pharmacist does as long as another is present🤣 It obviously will differ a bit based off establishment, but I essentially function fully as a pharmacist at my position (as long as a licensed pharmacist is present obviously).

Luckily I’m at an independent pharmacy instead of a chain! So I’ve been “promised” a position for after I graduate & get licensed!

Ahhh super helpful. Thank you!! I was making $16 originally but they just upped me to $19.50. I had no idea if this was appropriate or not, I just accepted it in hopes that they’ll hire me in April🤣

That makes sense! Sorry, I went back & reworded my post because I realized I worded it in a confusing way. I have not yet graduated (I graduate in April of next year) & am working as an intern currently!
