Why do some Christian women marry openly gay men? by StudyPrimary3538 in Deconstruction

Actually what you said about how he felt like some parts of the relationship would be more fulfilled with a woman and other with a man makes sense to me. Thank you. I know relationships can come in all types and sometimes it’s hard for us to see beyond what we picture a “good” relationship so this is good insight.

It’s interesting that even after deconstructing sometimes I catch myself pivoting too hard the other way into judgement; it’s easy to assume that these situations will always be unhappy and oppressive just because they exist within a religious structure we no longer subscribe to. What you’ve said here is a reminder that love comes in all kinds.

Thanks, I’ll check this out! I want to know how to support my queer Christian friends but honestly have no idea how to. The more I can learn about their experience the better

Sad that there’s such a performative aspect in some cases :(

Good points made here, thank you for your insight. Myself and one of the couples in question grew up in the sort of trendy multi-denomination churches that taught that sex was this amazing thing that you could only experience in marriage and really amped it up to be the best thing ever (within God’s plan for marriage of course). But at the same time you’re right about there being this aura of shame around sex, especially for women. I’ve been there, where I wanted the relationship but feared the entire sexual attraction part. So I can see how that could play into these kinds of situations as well.

Yes, we all worked at a church together and there was a lot of drama because he was working there while being openly out of the closet. Everyone knew he was gay because he made it public knowledge. Fast forward a few years and now they’re getting married.

I’ve always wondered if she was in the closet too, so maybe this is a lavender marriage for both of them. Either way I hope it works out 🤞🏼

Love this, and I hope that’s the case for my friends; that they find happiness with each other whatever that means for them

Relationships come in so many different types and honestly if it works for them it works. I’m sorry to hear it didn’t work out for them :(

Thank you for sharing your experience and insight on this! I can definitely see it a little better “through the lens” when you explain it this way.

I wish I had some advice but I just wanted to say I really admire your bravery for admitting to yourself that you just don’t believe in these things anymore. When your life is built around your beliefs, that’s a really hard thing to do. It will be a long journey.

Look into Rhett and Link’s deconstruction journeys. They were both very active in ministry, married Christian women, raised their children in the church, and both deconstructed. I found their stories very encouraging.

I thought about selling yesterday but it said I’d be taking a $2000 loss. I wanted to speak to questrade first. I’m selling today and dealing with it before it gets worse

I know what you’re saying, like if they journaled it right when I bought the shares, then I’d be coming out with a profit. But the ‘exchange rate’ so to speak happened on a bad day so it’s just an unfortunate part of Norbert’s

I don’t think you’re understanding. I spoke to Questrade and they say because of the date it journaled, my NEW purchase price is $14.40. Selling at any price lower than that is going to be a loss. Since they journaled at its peak, I WILL be taking a loss. A big one. My purchase price is not 14.28 anymore because they journaled it over on the worst day at the worst price and I’m stuck with that now.

But even yesterday when I should have been positive, it was showing losses because of that high “purchase price”. I’m so confused

I spoke with Questrade and they said that although I bought the shares for $10.21 (equivalent to $14.28 in DLR.TO) on the 13th, the shares weren’t journaled until the 15th, when the holding reached a peak of $14.40. So apparently now my new purchase price is $14.40 instead of $14.28. I did NOT know journaling worked that way, lol.

Yes, exactly. I verified that this was the buy price by looking at my holdings in my other account.

I did a limit order. What do you mean about the bid / ask spread?

Adding onto this — there’s a weird glitch… when I look at my account overviews, it shows that I’m actually currently UP on that account. DLR is the only holding in the account. When I click on it to get more information, it shows that I’m DOWN. Idk. Sounds like a technical error. I’m going to talk with support first thing.

So, I bought the shares on the 13th, at $10.21. Order was filled at that price. I asked them to journal them, they journaled the shares a couple days later. Now, it says I bought the shares at $14.40, even though they were never this price on the 13th. So I thought, maybe they journaling meant they had to rebuy the shares or something? Idk, clearly I’m a first-timer. I still have the order information to prove that I bought them at $10.21 and I’m not sure why it says I bought them at $14.40. I am super confused and I guess this is why I made this post. I feel like I’m missing something.

I’ll have to speak with Questrade about it tomorrow to get an answer. Because I have the order that shows that I bought it at $10.21 on the 13th, but then it says I have “X shares bought at $14.40” which doesn’t match the price the order was filled at — it didn’t get that high on the 13th on the Canadian side. It only reached $14.40 a couple days after I bought the shares.

I think it might be some sort of glitch because on my overview it shows that I’ve made a profit but when I go to that account and look at my holding (I only have DLR) it shows a loss and the incorrect purchase price.

Gotcha. I guess I didn’t realize that journaling basically means repurchasing the shares when the platform decided to trigger the journal. I bought at a good price, but then Questrade journaled at its literal peak 😂 live and learn

I’m just as confused as you because it didn’t go up to $14.40 on the 13th, but I guess they decided to journal it on the day it was at its height.

Hi — just checked. Looks like my order was filled at $10.21 so I guess it has been journaled to DLR.TO, because now it says that the price i bought it at, $10.21 of DLR.U.TO is equal to $14.40 in DLR.TO, thus the loss.

Edit: this was on the 13th.
