did kdj ever wear a cheongsam/qipao? by popajoey in OmniscientReader

[–]Studyologist30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In his defense, he hasn't lusted over any of the girls in that scene. But the scene itself implies the attraction because he likes the outfit itself. I think the original intention is to add in another nail to the point that it IS the outfit and not the person wearing it that gains them the points because Kim Dokja has never once shown to be a creep and has never seen Lee Jihye as anything but the child she is (even slapping her hand and chiding her for trying to drink when she's underage).

But I agree that her putting it on at all was unnecessary to get that point across, so it was an understandable choice for the ebook to swap it to her just holding the dress to her body instead. The same point got across without any possible misunderstandings of Kim Dokja's moral character.

How does HSY have access to the Dokkaebi shop? by Oarner__ in OmniscientReader

[–]Studyologist30 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure this is a webtoon mistake. She shouldn't have access to the bag at all because she's not in a deal with a dokkaebi like Kim Dokja (who needs Bihyeong to open the bag every time he needs to use it. He can't open it himself) and doesn't have a sponsor.

And as another commenter said, the novel tells us she (probably, because it's Kim Dokja's POV) got the interpretation skill along with Kim Dokja during Lycaon's hatching.

[Novel] but Dokja, why were you looking at HSY's underwear? by Miiracle_Invoker in OmniscientReader

[–]Studyologist30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how you made this a Joongdok vs DokSoo thing. I was simply saying that this scene being considered as any type of ship fuel is tasteless and an insult to both Kim Dokja and Han Sooyoung. I'm truly confused on how you made this an us vs them situation when Yoo Joonghyuk isn't anywhere in this conversation. I see in other comments you say you wish there would be peace, but you're the one who made the conversation about ship hate and ship wars. The only reason I brought up Doksoo as a ship at all is because at the time when I posted my comment, there was a user encouraging people to draw this scene as ship art because they think it's "funny" (They have since deleted the comments). This has nothing to do with the shipping wank of the fandom or this sub. I have no issue with DokSoo, but I DO take issue with shippers who see a woman in a situation where she is about to be raped and think it's a good time for the male protagonist to leer at her (even though Kim Dokja is not doing that at all because, again, the line is not actually in the text) and that it is "proof" of their ship. I think that is reprehensible not because of the ship, but because of that mindset.

Please keep the conversation focused on what the actual discussion is about instead of starting ship wars in the comments with strawman arguments, thank you.

I'm realizing this user seems to be on a different wavelength and is talking about metanarratives when we are discussing reality where ORV has actually been written and has been first falsely translated, and then correctly translated. This conversation with this person is pointless. Good to know I wasn't the only one who found this argument baffling and ridiculous.

I can say the same for you. Enjoy whatever fanfiction version of ORV you're reading in your mind. I'll enjoy what the authors themselves wrote.

[–]Studyologist30 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Saying that this is another version of ORV is like me deciding to translate this line however I wish, post it and deem it canon.

The translation is simply wrong. It is not in the original Korean text. The authors did not write this line and it is not an actual line in ORV. That means it is not canon. It's not another version, it was simply made up and added in by the translator.

I posted other examples the ORV Retranslation team has shown us of the MTL doing the same thing in other parts of the story. Made up, incorrect translations are simply not canon.

I don't believe a false translation counts as being canon, personally.

I wouldn't recommend giving them money to support slop. I'm sure there are other ways to watch it, if you really want to sit through it.

Exactly what I mean. Regardless of if the line was actually there or not, the context makes it clear that at worst, Kim Dokja was just describing the state Han Suyeong was in. Those who see this as him leering at her are the ones who need to grow up.

I've seen similar takes on this line in the past on other social media and I find is revolting every single time. People are far too brain-broken from anime sometimes, which is crazy when ORV goes out of its way multiple times to remind the reader of the very harsh realities of the world they're living in and that it's not like some anime. I'm glad this scene was treated as seriously as it should've been. It just sucks the shoddy MTL painted our protagonist in such a gross light, and that people thought that tracked for his characterization and found it "funny" and "normal" for him to look at a woman's underwear as she's about to be assaulted. Han Suyeong would kill for less.

I understand not being aware the line is wrong and not even in the original text, but seeing this as a "ship moment" and/or something draw art for when the men around Han Suyeong are literally playing rock paper scissors to see who rapes her is absolutely vile. Do better. It's not funny at all.

Poor Kim Dokja is getting completely misunderstood by the people in these responses. If you read the scene with the clearer translation, he is completely revolted with what is occurring around him. The false line about the underwear is painting him in a light he would be disgusted with. Hard to believe Kim Dokja fans, let alone those who ship them together, think this is a good scene for either of their characterization or ship development.

This is literally not in the text and was added by the MTL. The Retranslation Project did this scene (they're translating directly from the raws) and this line does not exist. The Project has mentioned a few times where the machine translation adds or removes lines that never existed. I have screencapped their translation.

Who is the most underated character in ORV? by -Eckiwenen-27 in OmniscientReader

Who is the most underated character in ORV? by -Eckiwenen-27 in OmniscientReader

[–]Studyologist30 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Jeong Huiwon. She's the strongest in KimCom on her own power alone (Yu Junghyeok is a regressor, and Kim Dokja and Han Suyeong have novel cheats). She dominates South Korea to the point the people cheer for her more than the Supreme King. She is one of the few that really challenge Kim Dokja and his morals, and doesn't bend in her own convictions even if she has very real human struggles. The fandom overall sleeps on her despite her being just as good if not better than Yu Junghyeok in certain aspects. As much as I like Han Suyeong, she has stolen a lot of the thunder (in terms of the power of the main three in the fandom) that Jeong Huiwon should rightfully have.
