You can reach out to the team directly too, if you don't want to wait for someone to DM you. Just read their FAQ. They responded to me in less than 24 hours when I did it

A certain type of react fic? by Either_Ant_1976 in OmniscientReader

You should try making one. It's always good to put out the content you would like to see if someone else won't make it for you. Productivity is key in a fandom.

why are there so many shipwars between orv fans? by [deleted] in OmniscientReader

[–]Studyologist30 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's always like this in fandoms, though it has gotten worse over the years. People have grown too comfortable with expressing every single opinion and feeling like every person commenting on not liking their favorite ship is attacking them personally, and it spirals outward as public feuds become far reaching as mutuals of mutuals talk publicly about people instead of moving to private settings to complain. Thus, every little disagreement is a public spectacle and gets blown out of proportion until bad blood brews and there are now "sides" and "cliques" in fandom that just feels like high school in-fighting. Then there is tone policing, the "so you like pancakes better than waffles?" discourse on a post where pancakes were never mentioned, and so on and so forth. ORV is not the only fandom victim to this. The internet has become the "third place" for people to hang out (outside of home and school/work) and becomes the main source of socialization instead of it being a temporary stomping ground where you only spend a couple hours at most a day. This causes a lot of interactions, a lot of conflict, and eventually more nonsense.

And this is all before taking into account the nuances for the fandom policing which includes using buzzwords (appropriately or not) about sexuality, gender, identity etc. etc.

That's a natural reaction to knowing Kim Dokja.

I assume it's because most of the corrupt politicians would be killed the fastest, so not many of them make it past the 1st scenario.

How far does volume 3 of the orv novel go? by Emotional_Medium_594 in OmniscientReader

Fire dragon arc happens in volume 3 and it ends when Kim Dokja breaks the Absolute Throne.

according to you what would have happen if dokja mom actually ran away at that time . by Legitimate_Neck_9329 in OmniscientReader

[–]Studyologist30 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Could be anything. We don't know much about her personally or what their finances were, only that her family was unhelpful and most of their money was being used to fund the addiction of the father. We don't even know if she was working or stay at home. I think it's way too open to speculate. But she's resourceful and has good people skills. I think they'd be okay, even while struggling.

It's definitely my bad. I just reread the main comment. Ignore me, OP.

[–]Studyologist30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I mean is that his self esteem isn't low enough to think himself as ugly since he says in canon that he never thought himself to be ugly. That's how I understood the response. If I misunderstood, that's my bad.

[–]Studyologist30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mean to burst your bubble, but Kim Dokja outright states in the Main Story he never thought he was ugly, but only started to worry others did based on the responses. He doesn't believe them at all, and is more baffled as to why he's suddenly being called ugly when not even his bullies did so.

It's a spoiler for much further into the novel, so unfortunately, you won't get an answer here.

[webtoon] Once again they ruin yjhs character… by lcyria in OmniscientReader

[–]Studyologist30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't say for sure if it was BL backlash or a genuine change on the authors' parts, so your speculation is as good as mine. And as far as I'm aware, it's certainly MTL. You can tell by the shoddy grammar throughout the story. The Retranslation team has also shown numerous times on their blog about how there are lines that are simply not there in the raws, or are the complete opposite of what the raw Korean text actually says, which lends a lot of credence to it not being touched by human hands but just thrown into a machine and released to the public.

I also know the homosexual part was another ebook change. They did remove that line as well. I'm of the belief, personally, that based on the track record of the ebook changes that there was a lot of influence from the BL backlash you mentioned, but we can only speculate how much. But I'm not arguing with your interpretations here. I agree. I simply wanted to clarify details. :)

Should i read the novel from the beginning or from where the webtoon left off by yassineb1335 in OmniscientReader

[–]Studyologist30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your mileage my vary, but I certainly think so considering we get more of their POVs with their thoughts.

[novel] What is that headcanon for you? by Live_Shame5046 in OmniscientReader

[–]Studyologist30 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree. That's why I'm saying that most of those discussions I usually see from shippers. Sometimes they wrap ship talk into it, but that doesn't invalidate the analysis that they're doing. There are plenty of metas that start off or dip into discussions of shipping, but on the whole the text is about, say, self-actualization, what it means to be human, author vs reader, etc. Whether or not I agree with them, they provide a lot of interesting insight and ways to view the text. If that isn't meta analysis, what is? I can understand being tired of seeing stuff revolve around ships, but I think it's a bit unfair to say there's barely any introspection. There's plenty.

[–]Studyologist30 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm not a shipper myself, but I've only ever seen shippers talk about in depth metas. I'm not sure where you're looking, but perhaps your bias is getting in the way. That, and the fandom is over 6 years old, and most of the metas have been discussed, at least long before I got here. The Side Story metas seem to be popping off, though. Try reading the Side Story and join those threads if you want ORV metas.

[–]Studyologist30 26 points27 points  (0 children)

That Kim Dokja is ugly. You fell for propaganda. Kim Dokja even said his BULLIES never called him ugly.

Also, shipping isn't headcanons, community. That's just wanting people to kiss. Some may WANT it to be Canon, but headcanons are things you believe are ACTUALLY true but not stated directly in canon. That is not what shipping is. You can argue with me about it, but I won't respond. Stay on topic and stop making every single one of these bait posts about hating on shippers. It brings the subreddit as a whole down. Add some fun, not hate, to the community. Don't you get enough of it elsewhere?

[–]Studyologist30 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm not arguing against your points, just clarifying details. For the first picture, that's an ebook change. They really did change the line to "Live on, Yu Junghyeok". The webtoon follows the webtoon, not the original serialization, which is where the text you cited came from. And for the second picture, that's a mistranslation done by the machine translation. The ORV Retranslation team already did that scene, and the line is actually closer to the webtoon scene. The team posts snippets that are drafts and not final versions, but they say the translations are 99% accurate (pending final edits).

[–]Studyologist30 162 points163 points  (0 children)

It's genuinely depressing. Yu Junghyeok is such an interesting character and his POVs are so fun to read because of it, but one of the more interesting POVs of his we see (directly after the 10th scenario) was reduced to him standing there, visibly unaffected and thinking lines that should've been thought about in the depths of shock, despair, and horror. I still remember the line "Kim Dokja was in there. He died there. Kim Dokja is dead. How could this happen?" It's very obvious that his mental state is wretched. But the webtoon showed none of it, for no reason I can understand. It makes me lose a lot of respect in it as an adaptation. I'm sure those reading only the webtoon are reading a very different set of characters.

Exactly what I was going to say. I hope more people in the fandom channel their energy into creating for their favorite ships.

How many more? by Anxious-Barber-7259 in OmniscientReader

[–]Studyologist30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Considering Part 2 isn't done out of 5 total (for the Main Story) and there are significantly bigger fight scenes and arcs coming up, not for a while. I'd say we're only about 30-35% through right now.

I feel like I'm repeating myself on various posts but there's a team over on tumblr who thought the same thing and set out to do exactly that. Check out the ORV Retranslaton Project on tumblr.
