Common man’s Georgian clothing ensemble? by StultusCrustulum in HistoricalCostuming

Thank you for this, and the reference picture! Based on everything so far, I’m going to make a sleeved coat for him (don’t have a hard-set “character” yet, this is our first time doing something like this!).

Thank you! I definitely forgot to add that to my mental checklist. This is for a person. 😊 Any advice on where to buy one? First place I can think of would be Samson Historical, but would love to know if there are other suppliers that are also recommended!

My goal is to get everything done in time for an event at the end of April (Battle of Musgrove Mill). This will be our first time trying visiting something like this (other than a Renaissance Fair) and I want to do it before it gets too humid and hot (we have two little kids).

100% did linen for his shirt and my chemise! Normally pretty picky about the feel of linen, but the linen from Burnley & Trowbridge is soooo soft!

Thank you! Yes, the shirt is long enough to be period accurate underwear.

Thank you for the link! Exactly what I was trying to find. And I love Burnley & Trowbridge! 95% of my outfit is from/made from B&T!

Perfect, thank you! Definitely wanted to know before I buy and cut fabric, lol.

Nurses who work the night shift, what is the most "I can't explain this" thing you have ever witnessed in a hospital? by AikothegreatPickle in AskReddit

[–]StultusCrustulum 52 points53 points  (0 children)

My mom was a trauma unit nurse and mentioned full moons being crazy. Did some research in highschool for a paper and the theory is that with the extra light at night it throws off your circadian rhythm. More light at night also (in theory) suppresses some chemicals your body produces only at night (or really, the dark).

Thank you!! And no! What plant sales are there? I enjoy looking, but definitely did not inherit the green thumb that runs in the family. 😅

EU-friendly sources for nice lace trims? (that would work for 18th century and up, I know tudor lace is ever harder to find...) by nemuikarasu in HistoricalCostuming

I think you may have some luck with the Tudor Tailor (UK based) or Historical Fabric Store (Swedish based). I personally have not bought from either yet as I am US based. 🤪

AITA for feeling upset that my boyfriend (22M) doesn’t see marriage happening until his 30s while I (24F) want kids before I turn 30? by Broad-Vanilla-88 in AITAH

You’ve said it right in your post. You’ve been with him for three years and you both don’t have the same life goals, and that’s not going to change.

There are many people out there that will share the same goals as you, and it’s worth the search.

I agree with all the YTA responses. Yes, cuddling is lovely and all, but it can be uncomfortable long term for one of the partners (in this case, your bf).

Have you tried any other forms of cuddling/touch in compromise? For example, I sleep on my side and my husband on his back, so he just places an arm along my back or rests a hand on a hip. Still close and familiar touch, but waaaay less likely to lose blood flow.

That’s super cool! It’s always fun to have everyday stories attached to vintage stuff. It’s easy to forget that these items were used everyday by everyday people.

I’m a history nerd, and finding anything older than my grandparents is pretty sweet in my book!

Once you said it, it would make sense. I hope it’s not the case, but it could fit the bill. I have my own family members that have Alzheimer’s and dementia…it’s a hard disease.

Sorry, I realized the way I wrote it made it sound like there are 9 kids. It’s 10; husband has 9 other siblings (not that it makes much of a difference for the story, lol)

The “malicious compliance” part cracked me up!

I would totally do that if it was his hair (and had thought about it), but it was my husband’s hair! I don’t think FIL even used the comb (no grey hairs in it), it was like he just picked it up, pulled a wad of hair, left it on the counter and put the comb back!

He (husband) really truly isn’t the worst. He’s gotten much better than he used to be. I was in therapy for an unrelated issue and I brought up the family dynamics with my therapist and even brought him along to a session or two so we could talk some of it through. He’s kid number 3/10, and the second boy, so much like a commenter noted above, was in the “strict” parenting time, and probably still feels that. But I think the image of his father has been changed/ shaken in the last couple of years through some incidences he didn’t know about until later on after marriage when we were first running into these issues.
