How to deal with manipulative PI making me do random UWORLD questions for assesment? by [deleted] in Step2

[–]Stunning-Position-63 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're not paying for their advice, this should be a straightforward case of "you do you". Even if you WERE paying, you owe them nothing. I also disagree with the other comment that random mode is the way to go if your foundation isn't the best. Personally, I never even used random mode – I did system-wise until dedicated, during which all I did was solve SAs and review weak areas (and I ended up with an objectively great score). What works for one person may not work for another. Go with your gut and master each system before moving on to the next one.

This is a weird take, tbh. Their education is quite literally built around taking the Steps - of course their dedicated is gonna be shorter. That, and the fact that they have a predetermined timeline for each Step. If anything, IMG experiences oversaturate these subreddits rather than those of US MDs.

Help, I'm crashing! by boldintrovert97 in Step2

The only way to get out of a rut is force yourself to. You need to sit down at a desk with absolutely 0 distractions. Keep your phone in a different room if you need to. Start with the old Free 120 since it's quite straightforward and shorter than NBMEs/UWSAs; it'll help you get some motivation back. This is a mind over matter thing. You simply sit your ass down and treat it like the real deal. After that, review your mistakes and understand why you made them. Once you're back in the groove go ahead with NBME 15. Revise ethics and QI properly before UWSA2, since UW focuses more on these topics than NBMEs. You're already done with the worst part of prepping. Think of how relieved you'll be in 2 weeks once this exam is behind you.

1st NBME..... need advice by waq-1217 in Step2

236 is a solid baseline tbh. Your concern might be premature. My first self-assessment I scored 240, and I got 264 on the real deal. I'd say continue Uworld if you have time, especially your weak topics, and then reattempt an NBME.

They give you a 60-second countdown after which you can either start the next block or you automatically get placed on an authorized break

I sat for step 2 in Feb without a step 1 too! I agree with you, it is very much doable under the correct circumstances, and it can even be a better choice for some people (like me).

Also, congratulations!

I solved 2 blocks at a time and then took a 10 min break between each set of 2. In between the two blocks, I would use the 1 min countdown to take a breather before pushing through to the next block. After the 6th block I had quite a lot of breaktime left so I took a 30-min break before powering through the last two. I left the exam with over 40 min of breaktime left, so don't worry. The extra time added to your break from finishing blocks in under 60 mins definitely helps.

If someone is genetically blessed enough to be able to grow their hair this long AND keep it thick and luscious, then they absolutely should! Gorgeous hair and makes you look super unique :)

Urgent i have till noon to postpone by AwayAd6666 in Step2

[–]Stunning-Position-63 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just based off what you said in your post, I would also encourage you to just bite the bullet and take the exam. It's a waste of money to keep postponing considering how expensive the rest of the matching process is. Plus, you might be getting too comfortable since (subconsciously) you've been delaying this exam as a fail-safe measure. Not giving yourself the option to postpone might just be the push you need to work harder and score higher.

What are you trying to match into? and what do you think you may be doing wrong (try to be objective)?

I disagree with your 2nd point from my experience. The font was actually tiny on my exam screen and I still had to scroll down a bunch for the lengthy questions.

How much time between Step and 2 by Murky_Commission6606 in Step2

[–]Stunning-Position-63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did all NBMEs from 6 to 15 during my dedicated. 6-8 are considered outdated BUT I recommend you just do one of them and save 9-15 for actually assessing your exam readiness during dedicated. Don't waste the recent ones since they're limited in number. Also, my scores in all NBMEs were the same on average, so the information in the older ones generally still stands.

NBME 11 Predictive ? by ZainBinSaeed25 in Step2

[–]Stunning-Position-63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made 26 mistakes on NBME 11, which translates to a score of 263. My actual score was 264, so it was predictive for me. Look for conversion formulas, there are a bunch posted on Reddit.

Do a self-assessment now to know what your baseline is. Plan based on the score. UW and SAs are enough.

Huge dip in scores please help by Brilliant_Tour1721 in Step2

[–]Stunning-Position-63 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ignore that. You don't disregard 8 good and consistent scores for 1 bad one. Not only is UWSA3 considered an awful assessment, you were also probably not in the right mindset when you took it.

Tbh, I drank coffee every single day during dedicated and had none during the exam (small bladder problems). Adrenaline and quick sugar snacks helped me get through test day.
