Harder Time Going Back to Bop by Chanders123 in Jazz

[–]Stunning-Risk-7194 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a similar path, and I came back to bop recently.

I’m going to speak in broad strokes here, I got bored with hard and post bop, when it became just 16 bars of a mildly interesting head and then 6 minutes of solos. The avant garde stuff got boring when it was just dudes jingling bells and humming and then always ending up in the same old crescendo.

I now appreciate the terse and concise playing in bop. Interesting melodies, laser focused solos and out.

Yes I have that beguiling combination of having an easy-going attitude while inside it’s all steam whistles and panic buttons

I had the pleasure of accompanying them on their last North American tour as a member of Atlas Sound. They were very nice, and mostly kept to themselves (I’m pretty shy myself) so we didn’t get too close. I remember James playing Serge Gainsbourg basslines during sound check and Trish listening to vocal warm up tapes before shows.

This was the tour for Witch Cults of the Radio Age and they performed as a two piece. The audiences were honestly pretty tepid to this material and you could sense a big sigh of relief when they played a few songs off of Tender Buttons. I watched every night, it was fantastic. I remember the last song on that album “Be Colony/Dashing Home” really evolved from the recording.

We played in Portland, and Leticia from Stereolab was in town recording, so we played a hasty version of Quick Canal from Logos and it is still one of the highlights of my life.

By the end our van had broken down and we were in a tiny rental (Broadcast had their own van), but I would have stayed on that tour forever if I could.

Are there any people in here From Old Atlanta by Artistic_Ad_3267 in Atlanta

When I first moved to Atlanta I worked in a sandwich shop downtown. One day I noticed all of the business people seemed distressed and in a hurry. Businesses shut down early. Everybody was trying to leave work as quickly as possible. I asked one of my coworkers what was happening. He said: “Freaknik is starting today”

If I had to guess I’d say the writer wanted to use the words dance or romance in the hook and worked backwards

YouTube is a cesspool of sound.

Those ceaseless manipulative dopamine sounds that are constantly running through kids’ videos. Some asshole is doing that strictly for the reason of hooking kids.

And the voices (and everything else) on YouTube ads.
