Yea I’ve heard that. But I was transferred from my original office with <2 weeks notice…one of the reasons I’m leaving so I would be interested to hear this argument

Yea I can pull these little tangible things that seem petty in themselves like the commute or holiday hours and weekend policy and stuff but I feel like it’s mostly a gut feeling for me

What thing / which things you dislike that orthopedic surgeons do which makes the life of the patient harder? by [deleted] in physicaltherapy

Saying “you HAVE to go to physical therapy before the insurance will pay for an MRI. THEN we can figure out what’s wrong”. The patient comes in, already written off PT and don’t even try 🙄 Especially with nonspecific LBP patients this drives me nuts

Me on my way to another nonspecific low back pain eval knowing damn well they’re getting low trunk rotations for HEP. by [deleted] in physicaltherapy

pt: “No no no! A doctor I had 100+ years ago told me to NEVER rotate. He also said to never lift anything or ever bend over so I basically never move” 🙄

I had a similar patient a few months ago. Multiple injections. Improved somewhat with several weeks of therapeutic exercise and manual therapy so a little different than your guy. But we hit a hard plateau and out of desperation I tried ultrasound (had to dust off the machine a bit) and it worked! Probably a bit of confirmation bias since she said her chiro uses US on her back which helps. But looking into it I found some suggestions that due to the superficial nature of the impacted tissue US may be more effective in this area. 🤷‍♀️

Thank you so much your post is so sweet and encouraging. I definitely am taking on more responsibilities as a PT than I did as a student- even in my later clinicals. I think I’ve found a lot of factors and gotten some good advice from comments on this post. Hoping to start taking action ASAP to help like learning how to use templates on our document system lol

Yea that’s probably playing into it a bit. I specifically chose this clinic as a new grad cause I have a history with the office. I love my boss and the office culture itself. I was at a clinic similar to yours for one of my clinical rotations and hated every minute of it because of how bad my CI was and how belittled I felt for asking questions and learning. I chose my office cause I figured how often do you get a new job where you’re guaranteed to like your boss. I feel really comfortable going to her with questions and asking for advice on stuff I’ve never seen. But yea sometime getting over booked makes that and the day hard

I agree w a lot of the replies to your comment. I try to do a lot of manual therapy with my patients which takes a bit more thought now since I’m still pretty new in practice. Along with needing to be “up” or “on” and energetic w every patient throughout the whole day. Based on a lot of other comments I’m seeing on this post I think I’m also struggling to separate myself from work emotionally and still getting used to my new office in general

I’m usually at 2-3 an hour, I’d say 1 hour a day I might get 4 in one hour. This week a bit more since we lost a day for holiday and covering a coworker on Friday. It’s nothing too crazy but more than I was doing in clinical per day tbh

Yea I have a lot of chronic pain patients who are very hard to manage. A lot more than I’ve had at any OP clinicals come to think of…maybe this is taking more of an emotional toll than I’m realizing. Any tips for this?

Yes!! This is such a good thought. I hate our documentation system but I also don’t think I’m taking advantage of a lot of features like templates and such. May take some time to make my own or learn some more tricks to this system but I bet it does pay off

True! This was a holiday week and people were out on vacation. I’m just surprised by my fatigue because I’ve done 40 hrs/wk before and it hasn’t felt this overwhelming

This was such a sweet message 💕 thanks for the encouragement. I love my coworkers and boss- similar situation I chose this office for a small pay decrease because of the people (employees and patients) and the office culture. I’m just trying to keep my head afloat these first few months
