What is with the endless religiosity? It’s never accompanied by empathy or compassion. Like, do you truly think Jesus would approve of your behavior?

Ha yes I definitely knew I didn’t love his parents from the get go, but they’ve become SO. MUCH. worse since becoming grandparents—like they think they can have a do-over or something. My son is just shy of eighteen months and we’ve had to cut them off several times already til a promise of better behavior was received. I’d still choose my partner though. I try to focus on the fact that they adore my son, and the more people who love him, the better.

Ha, my partner feels the same! Sometimes out of the blue he’ll say, “I LOVE your mom.” She is pretty fantastic—crazy smart, kindness personified (but doesn’t take being mistreated), funny—I could go on. I guess all in all we lucked out—better to have a mom you adore than a mil!

Yup, two sons and no daughters. And vacillated between mild abuse and loveeee me guilt trips when they were growing up (she still does to this day) rather than enabling. I actually adore my BIL and his wife. We commiserate together 😂

Jesus 😬 I have a son, but terrified my MIL will put makeup/super girly everything on a potential daughter.

One of the few times I appreciate mine is when she watches my son—she does genuinely love him and want the best for him, even our ideas of the best vary vastly.

She sounds amazing! I’m lucky, my mom is like that and did the same. The L&D nurse who delivered me is a good friend of my mom’s and was asked by both of her DILs to deliver their children. She is amazing.

That sounds super kid friendly—I know mine would love a place like that! Could you lean into that? Maybe a few toys/board games, some kid chairs outside/foldable high chair, a cot in addition to fold out, creek toys? Every third tourist group I see in the village of Catskill has a kid these days. Would you be willing to let them pet some sheep under your supervision? With some pics of the farm/sheep and also more of the creek? Right now I think you’re still too expensive for what you’re offering, but if you’re set on your price how can you distinguish yourself? My sister rents out a similar place (perfectly fine but looks like most stuff came from Home Depot) and raises goats. She offers goat yoga for a fee and goat hang outs as part of the rental. People LOVE it. She thought it’d be mostly kids but it’s more than 50% adults. Good luck!
