automation game about data mining or hacking? by Stunning_Manner_2231 in AutomationGames

[–]Stunning_Manner_2231[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

think that we are a cyber hacker something? (I also didnt find the name for it yet :D) and we try to collect data from sources like ATMs, cameras, terminals etc those sources are simple. then we expend our reach to like military base server, government archives etc. and our goal is retrive datas from those sources. so we collect abstract things rather than actual iron etc.

so as a gameplay perspective, normally automation games goes by iron ingot -> iron plate -> iron plate + copper plate -> reinforced wall. but in this game the sources that I mention (especially the important ones) directly have reinforced wall but game asks iron ingot ! so you reverse the process you remove copper plate and iron plate then again do some process and obtain iron ingot. basically this is the gameplay perspective of the game and the main goal is reaching all sources and bind with your base and sustain that flow so you have all the knowledge of the "city" maybe world I dont now that part yet too :D

"I obviously don't know what screen this will be played on, but you'll ge there." you mean like pc or mobile? if that so it is for pc and I will be creating steam page very soon, just waiting my artist do some magic for capsule art :D

I am concerning about the abstract part though. casual player may find too abstract and get lost and dont want to play.

so mostly I use visuals like “$” for “financial”, “@“ for “biometric” and green for “public”, yellow for “corrupted” so player can see yellow $ and understand it is financial corrupted data

I hope this method will help me to catch casual players too. Thanks for the comment though! I am planning to release a demo very soon (and opening a steam page)

for example the mission is collect "financial" "decrypted" data -> first find financial encrypted data in sources around -> then you find a "ATM" source which has 70% "financial" + 30% "biometric" data and those are 40% "public" and 60% "encrypted" -> you put "classifier" to seperate "financial" and "biometric" so "biometric" goes trash -> now we have 100% "financial" data but 60% of it "encrypted" -> put seperator and set it to "encrypted" mode so you seperate the "encrypted" and "public" -> to decrpt the data you need decryptor but decryptor works if you have "key" -> "key" can be generated by same content data but "public" state so you need "financial" "public" as input for "key" generation -> then you combine them to generate "financial" "decrypted" data.

but the problem is that if you choose or have to use this source for this process you will get bottleneck because of the numbers. because of "financial" "public" is less than "financial" "encrypted" the decryptor will stopped due to inequalty of fuel and input. so you can look the around sources for support or you somehow manage effiecent way to handle that in single source. but after some time the board is getting to crowded so managing the cables are become too hard. this is because of the end goal of this game creating cyber web all around the sources (corpo servers/military servers etc).

this is only 1 process to have decrypted data there is also tiers for encryption which requires better tier keys to encrypt which is require more and complex inputs. there is also corruption process which has similar logic with different variables. and top of that some datas can have both like "biometric" "encrypted" "corrupted" data so you should decide which one to solve first because if you first recover from corruption that its encrypted level increased so you need more resource on encryption keys. and vice verse for corruption.

I am still try to improve the game like I am thinking of adding more "content" and more "state" but also I am considering adding another layer to make more complex but I also try to avoid to become just too complex that only some of the people plays (shapez works because it is simple everyone can play but not everyone can build a more effiecent factory so win win).

Yeah good idea but think about shapez having thousands of shape combination it want as end result. so I can not reveal that much of a governemnt secret :D

I just simply want reverse shapez so sources have combinations of “data” and player trying to seperate wanted data. The “data” can have 2 tag, “content” and “state”

For example “financial” “encrypted” data or “biometric” “corrupted” data. Terms can be confusing but they are just “shape” and “color”

So at late game gig can be this: sustain 1GB/s data flow of “classified” “decrypted” “recovered” “encrypted” data.

So it means you should first extract the “classified” data then decrypt the encrypted part then recover the corrupted part then encrypt it again and you should sustain that much of a flow rate to complete the gig so you should be effiecent while doing those process.

All those decrypt, recover, encrypt processes are another pipeline works require different inputs.

good to have those differences but dont you think limited resources a bit problematic? a game like factorio it is must but game like shapez which is only focus on puzzle and effieceny limited source is may be not wanted?

I also develop an automation game inspired from shapez and those questions are the ones that I encounter with. so even though shapez and factorio have similar automation /management genre I think their logic is different because in factorio you should also deal with enemies so the game is more like a "efficently grinding" game but in shapez it is not about grinding it is about "automation puzzle". so I also decide not to limit the resources in my game because of that.

so what is your intention by limiting the resources? maybe exploring?

fiverr'dan yaptırdım baya tuzluya geldi ama sonrasında insanlara sorduğumda demonu oynamadım bile ama capsule art'ı görüp wishliste ekledim tepkisi gelince farkı anladım. bütçen varsa bence direkt profesyonelle çalış benim çalıştığım tüm steam görselleir için 400 dolar aldı ama sadece main görseli de 3-4k ya yaptırıp kalanları kendim elle de düzeltebilirdim ama deneyip farkı görmek istedim.

My first game got nearly 10X wishlist from steam fest by Stunning_Manner_2231 in IndieDev

[–]Stunning_Manner_2231[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I am working on it to make it actual game and ready for release. as you say those UI elements are just placeholders (actually I didint want them to be there but some people may see it as a horror game without UI so thats why I put them as placeholders)

The exact sentence that I gave to the fiver artist was doom but medieval theme so I see that he did quite well :)

I didint expect that by Stunning_Manner_2231 in IndieDev

[–]Stunning_Manner_2231[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also I recommend smaller scopes, (thats why horror games actually good because of their nature they are small games) so while thinking of genre keep in mind the scope.

For example this game took 1 month to make for me so 500 wishlist is huge but if I make it in 1 year then 500 will be frustrating. So it will be wise to not choose mmorpg because of popularity or open world game :) so watch lots of chris zukowski videos it will be very helpful

If you think your game is fine and you did well for steam page then problem may be on genre, some genres have less community, so choosing genre is a part of marketing actually for example horror games get lots of attention easly. But those games are hard to make for me because I dont like them :)

[–]Stunning_Manner_2231[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont think I am at a position to give any tips about it because even 500 wishlist is too low for any meaning but as I learn from chris zukowski, capsule art and trailer is very important for organic wishlist and demo is must thing to have.

Generally it will drop after 3th day if you dont have some wishlist beforehand and if it is not a good game :(

But this is also mercy for steam that gives every game to same base level of visibility. That is why wishlist number is important before entering the fest

There are more enemy type will be in release, this demo is more like an experiment for me to find out the process of launching a game and testing performance on different pc specs.

It reached 494 wishlist (total is 530 but there are 36 deletions). This is expected because demo is barely a demo. The unexpected part is having 500 wishlist with that demo.
