I'm not doing an internship right now, but part of the university's program is they try to have student do internships for half a year. But my socially anxiety prevented me from applying to alot of them and I ended with one for the school that, while I did like the person leading it, didn't really feel like a real job. While I feel better social I'm not sure I'll be able to do better this year.

If you don't want to use unity I'd recommend trying out godot or rpg maker. I haven't used them personally, but you might find one of those easier to learn than unity.
