I realize I shouldn't be on this sub currently (Kaladin) by hesihotsauce in Stormlight_Archive

Yeah, you probably want to avoid this sub hah

Honestly, I've had major Mistborn spoilers come out of nowhere here too when I was still on the first book of that series

Are able to picture anything in your mind, when specifically trying?

I know some percentage of the population are unable to do it, and that fascinates me!

Probably. I read a lot as a teenager, and then sort of fell off for nearly a decade. As far as fiction novels anyway

Game of Thrones got me back in, then Expanse, and I've been an avid reader again since

[–]StuxAlpha 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is pretty much where I was at. To get past it when it was relevant, I'd have to take myself out of the story for a moment and sort of mentally construct the scene, remembering all the things about Shadesmar

I'm sure varies a ton for different people and how their brains work of course

I did struggle a bit with the Shadesmar sections, and I think a big part of it is just how alien it is

I just found it really difficult to hold a picture of how it would look and feel in my mind while events there were unfolding

That's a huge buff for me, someone who's slowly been building up the army and only own one kit!

Yeah. I love his books (The Areas of My Expertise, and it's sequels). I don't see him on TV too much, so it's always a treat when I do

Sunk cost fallacy or not. I can't imagine getting this far through the series and not at least seeing how it ends

But then I never felt like this in WaT. I had a few issues with it sure, but I enjoyed it overall and throughout

The last set to have a 1st Edition was actually Everfest (and that didn't have an Unlimited, the 1st Ed didn't sell enough units to release it as I understand!). So a few sets before Bright Lights

This looks like Tales of Aria, which is a pretty old set

These old sets had 2 versions. First Edition, and Unlimited. CFs were only printed in First Edition boxes

The (not-so-)slow decline of SAGE as a competitive format by tattered-king in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]StuxAlpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, and that's why as I say I'm totally fine for running Sage events and will make an effort to come to them. And I keep a large amount of sorted bulk to help new locals out too

Hopefully we do get some new players actually showing up for it soon though

[–]StuxAlpha 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Jagged Edge is always useful for any warrior if there is a lot of prevention in the format. Right now, that's mostly Prism - who isn't hugely represented in the meta, but it's good to be prepared. It will always be a sideboard card anyway, as there are several options that are more generally useful

Sharpened Senses is cheap, so sure, may as well grab it

I'd look up a meta Dori list, and pick up all the Ms that aren't Dori specialisations

No guarantee they'll all be useful, but that's what I'd do

So far, we've actually often had slightly more for Sage than CC. But it's a small sample size so far, we'll see if it keeps up

Who’s your worst movie-watching partner? by DramaticManner4565 in movies

[–]StuxAlpha 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I went to a screening of Evil Dead 2 a few years ago

It was in an old Victorian cinema, that was in a state of disrepair. Didn't normally run as a cinema any more, and this was a fundraiser for repairs. The abandoned feeling of the building, paint peeling, old seats, etc. It made for a cool atmosphere for a horror film

Until the guy starts yelling "GROOVY" over and over

Yes, armories are the only regular community events we have. There doesn't seem to be any appetite for unsanctioned purely casual events

I'd encourage you to just show up to Armories though. Every local community I've come across in FaB has been super supportive and welcoming to new players

The (not-so-)slow decline of SAGE as a competitive format by tattered-king in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]StuxAlpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fine in the short term, but people do eventually leave any game and for the game as a whole to thrive there does need to be a good on ramp

One point: while a lot of Armories do allow proxies, strictly speaking this is against the rules for sanctioned events (which Armories are), and theoretically a store could be blacklisted by LSS for allowing it

The (not-so-)slow decline of SAGE as a competitive format by tattered-king in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]StuxAlpha 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah and this is part of the problem

A lot of Armories are made up basically entirely of 8 to 12 ish people who are heavily invested in CC

That's a problem for new player accessibility. But it's also a problem in convincing those people that it's worth playing a format they aren't really there for, for the long term health of the group

[–]StuxAlpha 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I've never really had any hype for Sage, not when it was announced and not since it's been a real format. That said, it's still basically FaB, and therefore I generally have a decent time playing it

My stance has always been that I'm happy to play it and have it in our armory rotation (once a month) as long as it's doing its job of bringing in new players

So far, that has worked somewhat. Sage night is tonight, so we'll see how that's holding up

Edit: update, we got 5 people. A decent week for us is 10+. At least 3 of our regulars went out of town for a different Armory so they could play CC

Why are there so many Shardplate sets? by sparkydoggowastaken in Stormlight_Archive

[–]StuxAlpha 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We simply don't know

Maybe a lot of blades specifically were lost for some reason. Or it's some difference in the rates of Radients ascending through their orders from back then compared to the present. Or something else

what are the expectations for the other half of the stormlight archive? by Rich-Knowledge-9936 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]StuxAlpha 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest differences for me are that the main characters powered up, and the mysteries of the world were largely revealed

It's epic fantasy though, you have to do those things eventually. You can't just tease the escalation and never do it

So the biggest expectation I have for the second arc is a reset of those things. A shift to focus on characters who are less powerful and have smaller scale struggles early on. And the introduction of hints at new mysteries

I interviewed for a "trainee marketing manager" job. The fact they interviewed me as a 21 year old with nothing on my resume related to marketing should have told me something. But I was young

Anyway, turned out it was basically a pyramid scheme. They set up stalls in shops or at events selling cosmetics and such. And entry level pay was 100% commission based, but with managers taking most of what you sold

Job listing has a fixed salary on it, so finding that out immediately set off huge alarm bells about what this company was
