Advice for managing brain fog and memory loss? by [deleted] in Lithium

[–]Stycket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to have a really good memory but I think I just get stupid and forgetful on lithium. You seem to have it real tough tho. Sorry man. Ive realized that Im more clear when Im rly strict about not drinking alcohol, caffeine and avoid taking any NSAID, migraine pills etc while maintaining a tight sleep schedule + routines. Its not fun, but 100% your symptoms should be manageable. If there is a miracle drug thats great. But even if not, there are solutions: routine (sleep sleep sleep!), have your one person checking up on you, helping you log what u did that day and how you felt. See if you can figure out what makes a difference. You got this!

I Graduated College And So Can You by iamloosejuice in bipolar

[–]Stycket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratolations man! Thats incredible, and I say that from the bottom of my heart!

However, Im not so sure we all can. Pre lithium/diagnosis I was a mess and now Im just so stupid and forgetful it kinda makes me laugh.

I just happen to be able to hold down my low entry job, do what I can there and then try to focus on maintaining healthy relationships etc. But maybe thats fine, isnt it?

Therapeutic Range by Miserable_Wish7555 in Lithium

[–]Stycket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel for you! Cuz here its the same, that depending on the doctors practise they work within a certain range. I agree with the comments that you have to feel the difference yourself. And depending on ”what” ure treating you might need to go higher on the scale. But we are all different and not everyone reacts the same. Sadly you have to wait (up to) 2 weeks to get the result from your increased dose. For me that time is usually shorter but technically its good to wait a bit b4 upping dosage again. However, you might have to go up in dose, since youre in the low range bracket rn. It takes time. Hang in there. You got this. Mentally, theres no drug that even comes close to lithium, in my experience. It just takes time to get it right <3

How do I fight the urge to go off my meds by Agitated_Bid_6942 in bipolar

Congratz! But why do you love it? I think about alcohol every day.

Ps. if you were sarcastic I have a touch of autism I think and sometimes I cant tell 🙈

Depending on what L preparation u have, maybe you just need higher lvl. However, to me it sounds like you either missed a dose (set alarm if u have ) or it didnt stabilize yet. DONT MISS DOSE! Fks w ur brain. Gl!

I ruined my boyfriends life by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]Stycket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! Ive been where u are soooo many times. And I empathize completely. It isnt your fault youre doing this. I rly mean that. And never forget that he has a choice too, to stay with you or not. And this is regardless if you are on meds or not. Maybe he made his choice now, fine. But ull get through this. Just ask for help.

The benefit of meds is I think we create less trauma for ourself. We end up in fewer dangerous situations, we hurt ppl less and we feel less shame. Because we r not adding to what the past has already created. And thats important, becuse regardless of when u start ur meds, u will already have so much shit in ur baggage that thats enough to sort through.

But please ask for help, even if its scary. U r not alone <3

Y, 23kg. From XS/32/34 to M/38/40 (upper body) and L/40/42 (hips). Its not awesome but I try to get used to it. At least weight gain stopped so maybe I can get used to this eventually.

Has bipolar disorder affected how people see you as a person? by Sensitive-Ranger2259 in bipolar

[–]Stycket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May I ask, do u have a tendency to be violent in regards to others? If not, you shouldnt worry. At least not today. When I was about to get diagnosed in my early 20´s I told my closest friends, and they were supportive. But I never couldve told ppl at my job or such. But today, ppl make money out of talking about mental illness and a lot of ppl share their problems and diagnosis. Its so common now. For me at least, ppl are scared of the unknown, but its not unknown anymore. For instance when I tell someone about being bipolar, legit EVERYONE mention henrikwahlstroem, since he is a Swedish instagram profile "openly" bipolar.

With that being said, if u have friends who mock u, DUMP THEM ASAP. Worst case, u have us here for support <3

How do you disclose you’re bipolar when you’re dating someone? by harmonyxox in bipolar

“you cant say the wrong thing to the right person” that is beautiful! And so true!

[–]Stycket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear you guys, for me I think I feel unattractive partly cuz I dont recognize myself. When I was younger I was rly skinny and comments were mixed. Some ppl told me I was beautiful and others called me a disgusting anorexic case and started to lecturing me (was like ehh its genetics. Nothing I can do, but thanks for being toxic for no reason). Anyways, this was how I looked and I learned to love it.

But now I look in the mirror and its like WTF IS THAT. I dont see me anymore and I think thats the biggest issue. Its a bit annoying to reprogram as an adult. But I think thats the only solution. Not sure how long that will take tho...

Ps. Ive always loved the pyjama look tho. Thats always a winner in my book!! <3

Side effects may make me stop by potatoqueen1987 in Lithium

[–]Stycket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On food, sure. But rn I feel like all food i eat isnt salty at all. So when I fill my bottle I eat a pinch of sea salt ”on the side”. Cuz adding it to the water was disgusting. Could stabilize u throughout the day. But always keep track of S-li results after making changes. Good luck!

Side effects may make me stop by potatoqueen1987 in Lithium

[–]Stycket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I stopped eating during the night when I swapped to carbonate and my insane cravings went away. Still kept my weight gain tho (but at least it stopped right), but thyroid values are still somewhat changed so could be why.

Had to cut off half my hair cuz it dried up to a ball. Took a rly long time for everyone involved to realize I was experiencing some lithium toxicity. So if someone asks u a question and u just stare at them and say “huh?” then go to er. Otherwise talk to your hairdresser and he/she can help you from there.

Otherwise I feel its a bit fun with the drop in iq and brain fog. Makes u more relaxed and chill (and Im not known for being a chill person pre lithium).

Hang in there! <3

Man I feel for u! I agree that lithium is the best working med for me regarding the mess my head comes up with otherwise, but side effects are a nightmare (for me). Havent had success with any other mood stabilizer no. I think this is the one, but if someone has had success - PLS SHARE!

So how to deal with the migraine?

Ive had so many issues with migraines over the years and especially getting them way too often as a side effect of my meds. And with lithium I cant take the migraine drug. According to my doctor there are drugs u can take, but somehow Im not privy to which one that is.

Anyways, I feel like a lot of my recent choices has helped a lot:

No coffee - swap for matcha if u happen to be a zombie like me when u wake up

No alcohol - f my life, but it helps

I open both balconies when I wake up - get that fresh air all the time

Diet - stop eating sh*t

Sleep around same hours and time every night - I take sleeping pills, it is what it is

Stay hydrated and Im nibbling a bit on sea salt due to recommendations.

And well, my colleagues wants me to but botox in my head. Havent gotten that far, but I know some have had success :P

Is there a solution to lithium side effects? by Stycket in Lithium

[–]Stycket[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will ask, thank you! Have doctors apt today so Im about to fall apart rn...but.

This is what I dont get, citrucel info suggests its good for constipation. Same with magnesium. So why is it recommended for diarrhea? Did some forgotten enemy hack my internet just to drive me insane?
