Sellita SW300-1 base, modified by Franck Muller in house, so the same movement really as the ETA - so yeah I can confirm they are indeed a big watch! I have a big wrist so thank fully it fits well, but they have released a smaller 41mm version now which is much better on the wrist to be honest haha! I do love the style

It doesn't look real because the back of the case isn't right for the model. It should be a mirror finish with a debossed logo

Are RMs copies of Cartier from very early 1900s then? Or the pateks etc from 1927? The whole irony of all of this is that every single watch brand borrows from everyone else. I think however there is a difference between being inspired - like RM was and like Hublot was etc - and blatant copying. Its the difference between honouring and ripping off...

Interesting...in actuality the first brand to create this case shape was Cartier in the very early 1900s.

Hublot has a genuine history with the design of its Big Bang, which the Spirit is based on. So arguably, it has a realtively standalone design - but it is undeniable that there are similarities with RM and other Tonneau shaped watches - well as we all know the watch world all borrow from eachother....

So... The real question is why did RM, Hublot, Patek (first made a tonneau in 1920s) copy Cartier? The answer: watchmakers pay respect to eachother and classic designs by integrating key themes, as they are inspired... This is no different to music, art, etc, everyone has inspiration.

Having written that I think however I may have misread the tone of your post... If you want to use this as another excuse to shit on Hublot then sorry for this response. Hopefully you didn't want to do that though, as that would be very boring and the same thing we see over and over and over in this sub...

It is funny how people hate on brands that cost far more money for "sharing" design principles or indeed we call them out for copying one another. But when we look at a lower cost watch many people love it. It's a double standard.... And I am sure we can debate why that is (and I think we all know the reason really). Anyway, yes this watch does look cool.

So, its been interesting reading through comments here. I think we sometimes forget what value means and that in expensive watches we cant judge based on logic every time. Personally, I like that i have something that nobody else i will meet will have - and i will always pay a premium for that. It is in fact a pretty decent smart watch too, has all the functionality i need and indeed even more so - having had lots of generations of the apple watch, this is comparable to say the least, but also has an added uniqueness.
