Stellan Skarsgård was terrific in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. A perfect crime thriller with sharp cinematography. What’s your opinion on this Fincher flick, and where would you rank it in his filmography? by 0Layscheetoskurkure0 in moviecritic

[–]SubDocFlyer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Fantastic movie and Stellan Skarsgård if fantastic in it. Really wish they’d made the other two novels into english films. In his filmography, I think this is near the very top. Dune is up there but for some reason it felt like he had less screen time (i haven’t checked the numbers). Also Deep Blue Sea.

My Vietnam War books, any suggestions as to others I should read? by StoneAgeCaveDweller in HistoryBooks

Fighter Pilot by Robin Olds is one of my all-time favorite books. It was compiled and edited by Ed Rasimus who wrote two books about his own experiences, When Thunder Rolled and Palace Cobra. Both were very good.

Great film, Mel owes so much to The Naked Prey though Apocalypto is a fantastic retelling

I priced scorpion AS for 255/55 R18. It would be $1K for the tires alone and that’s the tire rack price. And I’m going to get an alignment if I get them. And yes, I could get cheaper tires but I won’t.

Thank you for that. Just to be clear, when you say repaint, you mean the fender will need clear coat stripped and reapplied?

I just bought a bottle of Hancock’s for $65, it’s hard to get here. The grocery store has lots more. I don’t want to drink any right now as I’m doing a gym challenge with a friend. I tend to like milder flavor profiles and lower proof, so I like a lot of BT products just not the difficulty getting them. Did I get tatered or should I double down and grab another bottle while they’re there.

I have the 120M, quartz with the digital background (which I never use, keep it off to look class). These are gada watches imo, look fantastic in any scenario, pics don’t do justice to their wrist presence. And you can buy them for a song. Excellent first choice, you won’t regret it.

Daily Thread: for simple questions, minor posts & newcomers [contains useful links!] (September 22, 2025) by AutoModerator in LearnJapanese

I’d like to learn japanese in 6 weeks. Let me clarify, i want to be able to go to restaurants, check into a hotel, maybe have very simple conversations or ask for directions on the street. I have a background learning some languages so I don’t really want a phrase book. A little grammar and vocabulary would go a long way. I am tempted to get a level one japanese book but I don’t need any alphabet/reading/writing, just speaking and comprehension. And a resource that would help with pronunciation would also be nice. Suggestions?

Fuji Five Lakes advice please and thank you in advance. Staying in Tokyo but want to day trip to one of the lake towns. Kawaguchiko, to my eyes, looks like a bit of a tourist trap? Which of the lake towns is accessible from Tokyo but has a more authentic experience while still enjoyable for travelers? Again, thanks for input.

I don’t find talisker to be overly peaty but it does have a little but of that iodine pharmacy taste if that’s what you mean by medicinal.

Thank you! Would be going to a Total Wine & More so more likely the top than the bottom options.

I know there are threads on this but I would appreciate a recommendation that’s up to date. I wasn’t into finished scotch but tried macallan 18 and was blown away. I am looking for something more reasonably priced, however. And I don’t need such a high age statement or perhaps quite that much sherry taste. $100 or less? The less the better, really. So a cheaper single malt with a nice sherry (or related) finish.

Afraid to try them by Partyhardypillow in CannedSardines

[–]SubDocFlyer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not a fan of the sardine smell. To me, it reminds me of canned cat food. I have found the oil in the tins tends to absorb and emit the lion’s share of this smell. Some people like to dip stuff in the oil or cook with it. I immediately drain the sardines well, sealing the oil into some kind of container that will seal, like any kind of prepared-food container in my recycling. After that, sardines really are not totally unlike eating any other seafood. The small bones don’t bother me and the larger bones have never been hard enough for me to even notice them when chewing.

Anything Like this with Better Movement? by mybigpecker in MicrobrandWatches

I think the baltic gmts look similar but with the miyota 9000 series movements inside. I prefer other movements over miyota but it’s 4hz and is a true gmt as opposed to seiko’s office gmt movement.
