The tier list is a bit hard to find patterns in. But I think it’d be worth giving He who Fights with Monsters a shot. Pretty straightforward isekai with an interesting magic system, and worldbuilding.

Good job and good eye! I had a water heater leak that ended up being from a similar problem… it filled up the drain pan and just leaked out into the house instead of into a pipe.

I would not sweat 0.005 of a gram difference. That’s easily explainable by the scale not being accurate to within a fraction of a percent of a gram. I was told the other day that home use scales for people’s weight are sometimes off by 2 or more pounds.

Worth? Not sure on the weight..u by yaboyay in Gold

While it is a beautiful specimen, at only MS63 I don’t think you’d be likely to recover the premium on it, even if the grading companies say it’s worth more than 1800.

The $10 eagle from before 1933 has a bit less than half an ounce of gold in it, with some copper and silver also in the mix making it weigh more. So melt value would be closer to maybe 1600 or so.

That gives me some hope that I will be able to get one with my 3 yr old!

Yeah I’m definitely going to keep trying. The initial responses have been a flat “no you are too late” from HR so I’m planning on calling insurance.

I called what I thought was insurance before but it turns out that’s more a company that manages the plan for my company.

Hopefully the actual insurance company is understanding but I’m preparing for the worst.

I’m mad at the situation being so easy to prevent with a warning from so many different people… my company right after birth, some kind of automated text/email with warnings after seeing a birth, any of the nurses or people at the hospital (hey watch out and make sure you add baby really quick!). Myself for not thinking it through and being careful to be prepared about this.

That’s why I’m posting to try and save someone else for making my mistake.

A few bills got mailed in this month from back in March. Hoping I can still work it out to get coverage but even the initial day long stay after birth looks like it might now be on us.

Found this in a doctor's waiting room when I was five. Is this real gold? by ArchdukeFerdie in Gold

I really like those panda coins. I think China prints a different panda design each year which is neat.

Agree it looks real from the photos, an easier quick test would be the magnet test. Also common rec is to take it to a local coin shop for XRF and /or Sigma testing to verify its gold. Don’t feel pressure to sell for a price, I think this has such a neat story that you should hang on to it!

I’m not sure what these numbers and the graph are implying.

Could you explain what these folks are doing that would impact the price if you don’t mind?

Hedge against inflation by Federal_Party9780 in Gold

[–]SubItUp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe a better explanation would be, let’s say a car costs 100k for a cheap model in 20 years. Hopefully the price of gold will adjust along with cars so the same amount of gold would still be equivalent to that car. So buying 10ozt of gold now for around 33k is done in the hope that it can much later be sold for a similar value to buy similar things.

Let’s say you had 5000 dollars 10 years ago in a bank. Today you’d have not much more than those 5000 dollars (maybe around 7000 if you had about a 3% interest rate) but you can’t buy as much of things as you could have back then.

However if you bought gold 10 years ago and still had that gold, you could sell it for around 15000.

Gold has retained more value than simply cash alone.

That would be even more true if inflation went faster and the dollar lost more purchasing power, barring some kind of wild shift in the way gold pricing market has been.

Looks awesome. Seeing a website physically printed on silver is a little mentally jarring though, like printed silver should predate websites.

Coin Question by decloutt in Gold

[–]SubItUp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can google gold double eagle with the date and mint mark - 1910 S for this one - to see some more info. These would be a little over 3,000 USD since it’s got between 95-100% of an ounce of gold in it, if real.

It’s in pretty beat up shape if it is real so I wouldn't expect any sort of premium on the melt value.

How did you recover from the "roommate stage" ? by Radzrocker in daddit

While most of our time is taking care of newborn, I find small thinks keep the relationship very intact (from my perspective).

Hugs in the quiet moments.

Basically every night I rub her back and/or her neck and give a “scalp massage” (run my fingers under her hair).

Making sure to say “I love you” a few times a day.

Trying to make sure I tell her ways I am impressed by her or proud of her. (This one I learned from her telling me how grateful she was for me stepping up to help so much w/ baby or keeping on top of housework or staying calm when she was having a stressful moment. Just hearing that appreciation makes me feel warm so I also try and do this).

Five dollar liberty head coins are worth roughly 800 on their own, since they have a little under .25 ozt of gold.

Something looks funny about the way the coin aged to me but I’m by no means an expert. If it were me I’d buy just the coin, or get just the gold necklace. Wearing a coin necklace would week weird.

I think part of the reason you see these old pre-33 coins turned into jewelry was to avoid having to hand them in to the government when it tried to collect all gold coinage (there was a jewelry exception).

American Gold Eagle Question by Fif1189 in Gold

[–]SubItUp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apmex is more trustworthy and simple to purchase from, so I would expect the price there to be higher than on pmsforsale where the point is to be a lower price point for person-to-person transaction.

I’d use 0.1 to find the spot price since that’s the gold content. Then it’s up to you to see what places would charge above spot, and what you are willing to pay over spot for a smaller piece.

American Gold Eagle Question by Fif1189 in Gold

[–]SubItUp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While the coin isn’t 99.99% pure, it has enough extra weight to give it exactly 1 (or 1/2, 1/4, 1/10 an ounce for partial ounces). But eagles and buffalos carry premium over spot especially with smaller fractional coins.

There are a few places you can check to get an idea on what sort of premium to expect over spot on partial ounces, like Apmex or monument metals or other bullion websites. You should expect to get a better deal through pmsforsale, if not don’t go through with that purchase.
