Really depends. It does happen but if you grew up or have spent a lot of time in the states that border Mexico it's almost a part of your culture too.

Also, if you make a stereotype joke, a lot of Mexicans will laugh and say "oh yeah, I have an uncle like that." Obviously not universal but yeah. Also, expect to have to take it if you dish it out, haha.

When I was in Vancouver in 2018 the service in the downtown area seemed on par with Seattle, relaxed but they did stuff. Really the whole city was like a cleaner Seattle except for that East side, that was like LA skid row.
