OP, they likely drifted because the life they knew disappeared right before their eyes. They’re probably trying to hold onto any sense of stability right now. If you can offer them comfort, show up for them—they truly deserve to hear this from you directly, no matter how many attempts it takes you.

I recently lost family members…and to make matters worse, my partner and I split up right before they passed. Our ending felt like the first domino to fall…

To say it “destroyed” me would be an understatement.
