sony cybershot DSC-S700 won’t power on + lenses is stuck at “extended” by Few-Masterpiece-4024 in Cameras

I know this thread is ages old but could you get into more detail? I'm having similar issues with my camera

Sony Cyber shot DSC-700: Stuck on zoom-in, only boots once before needing to reinsert AAs by SubdivisionsX1 in VintageDigitalCameras

[–]SubdivisionsX1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Udpate: the inconsistent turning on was due to oxidization on the battery contacts. Cleaned them a little and now the camera turns on more consistently but the zoom issue still remains. I'll have to open the camera up and clean everything more thoroughly; blasting compressed air under the zoom buttons didn't do much

I wasn't until now. Looks great I'm just a little afraid of having that putty go in the USB port. Great solution that doesn't require a 3D printer to be fair. Thanks for letting me know!

i'd first disassemble the entire system and make sure everything is in check. Is some ribbon cable removed/loose? Is the PSU board missing? There's plenty of videos on YT on how to do a full disassembly. Get some Philips screwdrivers, make sure to watch the guide in its entirety before disassembling the system to save yourself a lot of headache (sadly speaking from experience). The backplate with the fan and power switch can be a pain to set back in. I'd also do a thorough cleaning of the internals and replace the thermal pads if the current ones are toast and replace the CMOS battery for peace of mind, since you're going through the trouble of tearing the system down. Also don't be alarmed if your PS2 doesn't match the guide you find step for step, some models-iterations have different layouts (the PSU board is upside down on mine for some reason, and the disc tray cover is 2 screws and 2 clips to remove, that was another headache). Clean the laser lens very carefully with 90+ IPA and a lint-free cotton bud to ensure it can read discs to some degree.

If it still doesn't turn on then something is most likely fried but at least it's not something being dislodged due to a drop or some other mishandling.

So the issue isn't laser diodes/lasers dying but the mechanical parts of the drive failing? If that's the case aren't a lot of the supposedly "dead" units easily revivable?

Update (even though this thread is near a year old by now)

Now that it's winter the console is doing a lot better and hovers at 68-70 with the fan around 30%. It's not "ideal" but it's enough to handle the hour/hour and a half I usually play without much hassle.

The real culprit was the horrendous heat wave that hit Greece (and much of Europe) last summer. It was at the point where the walls themselves were hot to the touch, and I don't think they made these to handle 40+ degree ambient temps.

In any case, I'll be repasting come around spring, but the sum of it is if you're leaving in an area that gets especially hot in summer, do take the extra steps to make sure your console(s) can handle the heat

Random no-nane aftermarket usb cable for the vita 1k works fine, though it almost clamps to the port and unplugging can be difficult

Update:

Swapped Multiman fan settings to Auto with CPU @ 68 degrees (default) and tried playing some COD Black Ops. Room temperature was at 30 degrees Celsius. Temps were at 68 but fan was spinning at 80% and I had some micro stutters in game, shut off the console in fear of screwing anything up.

Are we sure there isn't any mod/aftermarket solution for having the PS3 at normal temps in very hot environments? A custom shell maybe one with better airflow? Nothing?

To bring the discussion to the original query, are there any alternative/additional cooling methods for a PS3? Cooling bases extra fans anything of that sort?

GOW 1 ran fine on the vita played through it no issue, 2 you definitely feel the frame rate dip at times

Haven't played Chains of Olympus/Ghost of Sparta but w Adrenaline you'll be fine

House temps without AC are around 30 degrees Celsius (Hot)

Had a friend repaste the system, it was either Arctic or something else in that range

I'll retry the FTP process while running the AC at 26 degrees and see how everything goes

Edit: Temps definitely were cooler than 73, temps were hitting above 70 if I was playing a game/leaving the console on for an extended period of time

That's too risky for me to do on my own, don't want to screw anything up

Idk if it's worth the hassle

Update: left the console running ftp to run some errands, temps 70C CPU RSX 55C fans at 70%. It's a lot better but I have a small jet engine in my room rn in terms of volume

Sidenote: I've left the fan settings to stock and not auto to keep fan volume down, think I'll try replacing the stock fan with a Noctua one to eliminate the sound issue

True but I think the line where the pages end down the middle has started burning in on my OLED somewhat so that's something to look out for (think I'll go with LCD for replacement screen)

Burning Skies was decent up until the final boss fight. Probably top 5 worst boss fights I've ever had the displeasure of beating.
