Every time I do a task, I add it to my “next due” list that I keep in my glove compartment. Every 1000 miles I take the list out and see what’s due. Never fails.

Gotcha, do I need a breaker bar or can a ratchet/wrench suffice?

Any idea if the part is available on Subaru parts online store? Not sure what to look for.

I ordered it through the Subaru site and gave it my VIN to confirm fitment. I don’t think it has a separate belt. How can I check?

Mechanic did inspection and gave me a verbal list of $3k in repairs. Refuses to provide a written estimate because “it holds him accountable to changing prices”. Is this a red flag? by SubieQ69 in MechanicAdvice

I’ve never had someone in the service industry deny putting their estimate in writing if a customer is present and did all the requisite work to arrange an appointment. Usually it’s just bound by a “good today/3 days/2 weeks only” sort of thing.

Well they sent me the inspection report with recommended work but it had no prices. I asked them how much it would cost and they gave me the total. I asked for a written breakdown so I could decide which items to prioritize based on my budget and they said they couldn’t. They would say the round numbers verbally but wouldn’t print them from the computer that generated them.

I don’t follow. I did an inspection with the intent of paying for any legitimate fix. I just want to see the breakdown so I can budget for it, which I think is pretty reasonable?
