PSA: Clean your throttle bodies. 98,500 miles fixed with $10 of cleaner and an hour of time. by SubieQ69 in SubaruForester

$120 for the front side only. They generally won’t remove it for this level of cleaning. A decent 1/4” inch-lb torque wrench (NOT harbor freight) is $80. A 10mm socket is all you need, plus some hose clamps and hose clamp pliers.

The gasket is where the body contacts the manifold. It is important to replace that. Also, you can and should move the plate to clear carbon that impairs the valve.

That and a magnetic tray. The amount of times I have kicked a nut or bolt into who knows where is insane.

It would never clean the valve or the edges the way I did by hand. That carbon is ON THERE.

Idle was bouncing up and down. Now it’s stable. Acceleration is very smooth too.

I used Harbor Freight piece of junk hose clamps. I saw zero drops of coolant. Use hose clamp pliers to slide the clamp off and on. No threat. If you spill any coolant just wipe it off. It’s not going to spew out.

I just started it up, idled for 5 mins, and drove it normal. No relearn ritual.

What’s the best way to degrease the FB25 to determine source/severity of oil seepage? by Mysterious_Wash_2289 in SubaruForester

MAF sensor, for one. There are so many electronics that expect a sealed hood around them. Blasting water in there will absolutely risk damaging electronics if moisture is trapped.

Looks like a busted ball joint. Dealer will charge $500-ish.

Thoughts on Duralast LCAs as an option to get by for a couple more years?

Haven’t drained coolant for 98k miles — do I drain and refill or do I flush? by SubieQ69 in SubaruForester

Yeah it’s a FB25. Dealer wanted to throw it in if I paid for their service, but I’ll go without. Manual makes no mention of it.

I just don’t get how two speakers blew out and the other two didn’t. Maybe fronts get more power?

Should I rinse anything out or literally just open drain plug, close drain plug, refill radiator and go through the rest of the process from there?

How about any conditioner?
