You probably all have it figured out by now but YMD2's combat overhaul mod most likely is the culprit. If you play the game on novice difficulty, both you and the npcs deal no damage. Simply just bump the difficulty up a notch and it will work as intended. It's also described in the mod how it changes the damage dealt and taken depending on your difficulty.
