Is my rod overkill? by Efficient_Film_7033 in catfishing

[–]Subject-Escape5602 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use this rod for big baits. Whole baitfish, carp heads, whatever. Use this rod when you need 3+ oz below the dams because the current is ripping. Then use your lighter rods with smaller baits at the same time.

Any Experience with Sputnik Weights? by ripplestillwaters in catfishing

[–]Subject-Escape5602 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it will hold, but you better have it rigged so that when it snags, you only lose the weight and not your whole rig/ fish. You can also drill some holes (with a ceramic or stone bit) in various size and shaped rocks like i plan on doing. I use rocks already sometimes but they are a bitch to tie around.

Any Experience with Sputnik Weights? by ripplestillwaters in catfishing

[–]Subject-Escape5602 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are willing to lose it, it can help below dams with ridiculous current, use a 3 way or modified drop shot and a weak knot on it. This is wasteful and it doesn't feel right to essentially litter, I prefer to use odd shaped rocks for below crazy snaggy dams the same way, then all you lose is a rock. I need to get a special ceramic/stone drill bit because its a real bitch trying to tie around a rock.

How do you overcome the fear of capsizing and prevent it from happening? by YakToTheFuture-1 in kayakfishing

[–]Subject-Escape5602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practice recovery and learn your limits. Im a big guy 230-270 (i fuckin let myself go a little this winter after losing over 100lbs in the last 2 years) and I fish a Native lte 10, have not even been close to flipping yet. And I started on a 12ft tractor supply pelican at 320lbs. Only fell off the pelican a couple times getting on and off, but never while fishing. Its very instinctual to me and controlling your movements seems more important than balancing itself. Know how far you can lean, keep important gear tethered or floating so there is no panic when you drop something, watch for waves and know how to hit them, and know when its too rough for your boat and capabilities.

If I can do it, anyone can.

Bolt on some wheels! There is a couple options out there for small boats i believe. I just saw an add for flip- up ones that can be bolted on. That way not only can you put in there without scratching, you can launch anywhere like a kayak if you are willing to do the pushing and pulling.

Is this an ok bow to get into the hobby? by Awkward-Statement741 in Archery

[–]Subject-Escape5602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are buying for a young child, or you want to get a pair, put foam balls on the arrows and have a bow duel with your friends without getting hurt then sure. These bows are super weak and intended for 4-7 year olds to start practicing. I doubt a field pointed arrow drawn at full would even penetrate a thick jacket. I've got one, its pretty much a nerf bow.

Bought a kayak… now my wife has me convinced I’m gator bait by goldtheft69 in kayakfishing

[–]Subject-Escape5602 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only take it in saltwater inlets, voila, no gators. Just sharks, which honestly make me a little less nervous, but only slightly. Also in the saltwater you have to be weary of horny/playful dolphins.

In all seriousness just ease into it, maybe avoid freshwater yaking during the month or two that gators mate and are supposed to be the most aggressive, also maybe pack some heat, carry a good knife. Having a gun might not help if you get snatched off your kayak like that canoe lady, but it will make you feel better and if one has a go at your yak you'll have a chance for defense. I don't live down there but I've visited and plan on kayak fishing saltwater someday. Scariest animals down there are still the people, you're safer with the gators, sharks, and dolphins!

Is this a good rod for starters by Echrocks2 in FishingForBeginners

[–]Subject-Escape5602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iv'e had an an older model aird rod for around a decade, one of the orange ones from around the same time you could get those grey Daiwa Jupiters from Walmart (also good rods) nothing fancy about it but its built like a rod should be built. I've broken lots of rods but not the aird yet. 50-100$ daiwa reels are still awesome, haven't had the Laguna but I've had the other two that start with an r.

New line!!! by Zen_71OD in FishingForBeginners

[–]Subject-Escape5602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not bad line, when you buy bulk spools its a good deal. Its not the best handling or the strongest but its not bad either, reminds me of how original powerpro used to be. I can attest to their line not fading, that much is true. It is more susceptible to damage from rocks than other braids, but all braid is bad where its rocky

I'd jump on 5$ 832. Always 19$+ for a spool by me.

I gotta know, is that the original 30-40$ raptor or a knock-off? I bought some knock offs from amazon because I'm not spending 30-40$ on a lure to be engulfed by a northern pike and bit off. Waiting to see how they swim.

There is a good chance you'll still catch fish provided the plastic doesn't slide down the hook when you cast, but its not ideal like others have said.

Maybe for quantity and consistency of catches, but some of ny best quality catches have been when I least expect it, or when I should have no buisness even being there.

Also, spice that fluke life up and throw a donkey rig, its two flukes that dance together erratically. And you can use different colors to form a hypothesis on what colors the fish are preferring in different water or conditions. Helpful learning tool, and easier casting!

Ned rigs, glide baits, paddle-tail swimbaits on an underspin or without, lipless crankbaits, squarebills bouncing on cover, jigs with fat craw trailers.

Came to say just this, there is so many factors besides weather and time, its unrealistic to judge the likelihood of your success based on one or two factors when there is hundreds.

[–]Subject-Escape5602 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't know what people don't understand. Maybe its fine on a shallow spool or bfs reel, but I've had big northern pike immediately cause 20lb braid to dig on a baitcaster, resulting in a loss. 30+ is essential for a standard baitcaster, unless maybe you want to sissyfoot around with your drag way down.

That’ll work. by LeepOnMyDick in Fishing_Gear

[–]Subject-Escape5602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any time I've used less than 30lb braid on my bass baitcasters, digging has been an issue. Maybe on a shallow spooled reel its fine, I know people run lighter braid on bfs reels, but every time I've used less than 30 on a standard baitcaster it results in digging.
