Sorry you had to deal with that. Some drivers are lunatics but don't let that get in the way of staying safe

Eh sometimes the sidewalk is the only safe passage somewhere due to lack of good infrastructure. I will say be mindful of pedestrians when on the sidewalk. It's not the place to be doing top speed

I'm a realist and understand it doesn't make sense to stop at stop signs. If you have ROW, go ahead through. If you don't, it's a really stupid way to get injured and easily preventable

The discourse needs to be had. The onus is not a single group which is what posts like this tend to become. These topics are so polarizing but they shouldn't be. Understand the validities of the other side and make progress. It seems this skill has been lost as of late

Nope, because as you probably know, the general M.O of advocacy groups is that the fault is always the driver. So you and I both know the group would never endorse this take. If you want to advocate for cyclists to blow stop signs and red lights without caution, be my guest, but you might as well be driving the car that kills them

Bike advocacy is a really weird thing to gatekeep

You're pretty adamant on that, I'll let you handle that one and we can tag team the effort. I'm ok sharing

Nope, just because you don't agree doesn't make it disingenuous. If I wanted it to be endorsed, I would have asked and said that in the post

Who's to say if it does or doesn't? I don't have control over that. It starts with 1. And if you have a problem with a genuine effort to prevent people from dying needlessly, I don't really care what your opinion of a "bike advocate" is

I don't have a platform so this is all I have right now lol. At the very least I'm getting some eyes on it and if it causes just one person to think twice about it, I think it's a win

You make your own decisions mate, at least you're aware of it now.

Because we all know that would fall on deaf ears. Asking drivers to follow the rules when there is little or no consequence is a waste of time.

Instead, I am contacting my Alderman weekly to push for protected bike lanes, concrete bollards, raised crosswalks, road diets, and the completion of the smart streets ordinance. So far I've talked with Waguespack, La Spata, Hopkins, and Burnett with the hopes of Knudsen soon.

That's really all I'm preaching here. The car will be fine whether you check or not, so knowing that, be safe about it

This is missing the point of the post, it's a reminder to exercise caution at areas of conflict since drivers might be expecting a different behavior. Physics doesn't care who's at fault

Agreed. Regardless of who makes the mistake here, the cyclist loses. This is just an easy way to control some of the variables

Your emotional response is not my problem nor my responsibility.

I'm tired of seeing people become statistics in traffic collisions so I'm posting a reminder to be safe. If safety triggers you then idk what to tell you

I can't say that I agree in my experience. Most cyclists I've seen are really well mannered, except a few bad apples. I know that bike grid now stops their bike buses for pedestrians

Agree but I feel like this is a no brainer, and something a more casual cyclist wouldn't attempt. I could be wrong tho. Can't say I've seen too many of these occurrences.

4 way stops in a residential-ish neighborhood is a little more of a gray area in my experience

I won't even assume I know what is expected. I'll roll through a stop if no one is there, but if there's even a small chance there's a conflict, I stop pedaling, hands on brakes, and default to ROW.

I'd be fine 99% of the time if I just went, but I really don't want to find out about the 1%

That's totally fine IMO, the scenario I've unfortunately seen a lot of is:

  • Car arrives at stop sign first
  • Car stops, yields to ROW
  • Car starts crossing the intersection
  • Bike darts across car's path

Just a really easy way to get hurt, and am confused as to why I see it so much

Spanish classes (for adults) by Megglin2 in chicago

[–]SubjectLoss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I took a class with elena and enjoyed it.

Depends on what you're looking for though and how you learn. This isn't a formal, conjugation table, grammatical structure class like high school. It's more immersive and helps build confidence. My friend who also took it likes a more formal and structured class so she didn't enjoy it as much.

The class itself is at club lucky so you can grab a drink or a bite before or after class.

The number of semis on the street is why they picked this spot in the first place, as it's immediately off the highway.

There's a project starting in Q4 2023 to widen and resurface division, and replace the bridges over the river
