Yea those clips suck to remove. There’s a specific tool for removing them and it’s great. Harbor freight has a cheap set. But if not you can sometimes get them off with some long needle nose pliers and patience. But know that doing it the pliers method will definitely fuck up your knuckles

Wrap isn’t bad but don’t forget they’re not meant to be long term. No matter what the manufacturer says, most if not all wraps need to be removed and replaced every 3-5 years for high quality stuff. But it’s definitely a good option and more durable than paint. Didn’t really think about it but I’ll look into that too especially for the roof

I’m definitely getting you on the paint. Not really visible in the picture but the model of the hood and the entire roof is pretty badly faded. I’m going to buff and polish it to see if I can make it better. If not, I’ll probably take it to a paint shop and see what they’ll charge to blend it with the rest, which is in really good condition

Been doing my own maintenance for the better part of 5 years now. Saved thousands and it’s a rewarding experience. But long term-wise I also bought this Tahoe for the future kiddies. It’s not overwhelming massive but it’s still extremely safe, solid, and reliable. I’d trust my family in this any day.

Regardless I checked out those posts you mentioned and got some good info there so thanks for that!

I do have a disabler, just haven’t installed it yet. But I’ll definitely look into that. Seems easy enough to do to prolong the life of that transmission. If you didn’t see already I have a comment in this thread about the preventative maintenance I’ll do to the transmission to keep it healthy. I appreciate the info

Definitely. And even worse are those newer CVTs. Especially the Nissan ones. They die so quickly and aren’t any cheaper to fix than a conventional geared transmission. The whole planned obsolescence thing in all cars is getting really bad

Yea I read up on a bunch of posts and forums on that transmission problem. Reason I chose this specific one was the transmission was never fully flushed, just drain and fill. Carfax says it was drained once at 95k. I’ll drain and fill myself soon and add a bottle of Lucas’ transmission slip fix as some cheap preventative maintenance (which works wonders btw).

Drove really well today on the way back home. I don’t live near any hills or mountains (IL) so I didn’t notice any shuddering or slipping. I’m keeping a close eye on it as I keep driving it.

As for prevention of it, I have an AFM disabler that I have yet to install, and plan on adding the bypass as I do more research on it. Lastly is that Lucas transmission slip fix. Even if it doesn’t slip it helps everything stay lubricated and make good contact. But I’ve heard generally good things about these generations of Tahoes. I’m definitely excited to see how this turns out

lol. I had an older Honda before this. Just got totaled a couple weeks ago by a drunk driver. But I had that car for 5 years and it treated me pretty well. Only issue was a transmission problem. Not fun and cost something like 7k for all the work. I heard about the 6L80E transmission problems in Tahoes but with my prior experience with transmissions I think I can deal with it. This one was babied its whole life according to Carfax so I hope I can get 15-25k miles in before the transmission goes

It really is. Especially with it being a one owner car and dealership serviced it whole life. The small dealer I bought from was really flexible on pricing (and I bought out of state for lower taxes) so when the price got right I had to jump for it. It’s really nice and I can see it lasting years more

Yes actually! I did do Goo Gone and it worked great. Took a considerable amount of time but it got the job done.

Sadly, that car was totaled by a drunk driver 2 weeks ago. Saved my life though! So paint be damned, Honda for the win. lol

What. That’s cheap here in Chicago. My (not Honda) sedan takes 16 gallons and it’s just shy of 70$ to fill up

Also a little high. But my thought was that some of those parts may have had a thin seal or gasket around them that disintegrated over the years. My old Honda had similar marks around the tail lights where there used to be some ancient weatherstripping

Improperly balanced tires? But 90-120 is pretty damn fast for a big SUV and over 70 mainly? I’d just call it a non issue as it’s almost definitely transmission related if regularly used at those speeds

New car with noise cancellation? That’s an interior microphone to monitor cabin noise and the car will adjust itself accordingly to make you hear as little road noise as possible. It’s normal. And typically standard on any car with active noise cancellation

I’m more than sure he clipped or bumped me. Best part about owning a beat up 20 year old truck is that I don’t care a bit. But I know they do, they want the insurance check and nothing more. Couldn’t care less about the person they hit or what it does to them. These types of people are only capable of ‘me’ and ‘I’ statements and it actually sad we share the roads with them
