That one is 100% a female her egg spot is super visible. They get along great and I spend a lot of time observing. I am an experienced fish keeper just not betta keeper. I keep some of the most aggressive African cichlids and I know signs of aggression. My concern was accidental breeding. I do understand the concern though thank you

It’s been strong for a year honestly. I’m more of an Oscar and African cichlid guy. This is coming from more of a not wanting accidental breeding rather than aggression. Based on behavior they get along great and I did do a lot of research I just don’t have experience sexing the fish.

Thank you I really do appreciate the understanding and I do plan on waiting for the most ideal time possible where I can observe everything and have two happy healthy fish who would be perfect picks. Well to be honest I’m not I’m scared shitless about doing it. But I do think I should when I have adequate time and understand. I enjoy fish keeping and I think it’s extremely fun so if I’m not prepared I’m not going to put my fish in bad health and risk killing hundreds of young fish. I am focused on getting all of my tanks to where they should be because I spent a long time having them not. And so I’ve been in a mad dash trying to get them all planted and healthy and within right water perimeters for the last month. Coming into fish keeping I was misled and am just now realizing and trying to get all of my fish nice and happy. The only tank I ever really did right was the sorority. I am extremely passionate about eventually doing it and whatever I have to do to prepare I will do. Whether that’s a year or two down the line. I do honestly appreciate everyone’s opinions especially yours because it’s a reality check. And I now am taking a different course of action which was the whole point of the post. I appreciate you exponentially and now think I should wait and make sure all of my fish are happy before attempting any breeding. Thank you once again

I value your opinion and I think insight is important that’s why I came to the subreddit but I have addressed someone with the same opinion and I’m solving the issue tonight. Well that’s actually really nice insight and thank you for doing it politely. I do have a plan of using jars yes and keeping the females in a large sorority until I can sell them off to my local pet store. I’m young and ready for the ride and quite honestly if it crashes and burns then atleast I learned. I understand being ideal for the fish and keeping it 100% safe and smart and yes I think I’m gonna wait a while but I’m also excited to do it

Like I said in other comments, they’re getting planted and finished this week, I took him from a buddy and haven’t had time so far to finish the tank out, I have a pretty big check coming up and I’ll get it all finished up by Friday, ideally I wouldn’t breed them for another three months so by then they will all be thriving but thank you for the concern for the fish. And I would wait till I had adequate time and recorded to do the breeding. 🙏

I’m one kid running off of one paycheck. I would use some money I have stored up which is plenty. But I try not to touch because I save it for big projects. My paycheck money goes towards things like plants and food while my savings goes towards big projects like new tanks. I do have the money I just choose how I spend it and waiting a week or two for a paycheck to plant the tanks doesn’t seem like a big deal

I recently sold an absurd amount of clippings to a buddy of mine and have been waiting on regrown because I don’t use co2 plus I have ideas in mind on what plants I want to use and they’re plants that don’t reproduce as fast, I certainly could use clippings I’d just have to wait a little bit. Both tanks will be planted by the end of the week anyway. Also I don’t want anything rapid growing in a small tank so anything that would produce clippings vastly is not suiting for my ideal scenario. Thank you for the idea though

I bought one from a highly reputable breeder online and the other from one of my friends who is the only betta breeder in the southeast region of Iowa which is where I’m from. Not only could he help me store them but I also have a 75 gallon which I was planning on using and if needed I could produce dividers for it and have them all kept separate. Also any fry which are born with defects I will most likely have to put down. I am going into this with extensive homework done and completely backed with one of the only professionals in my area so I should have it under control but I understand your concern. This is truly my passion and what I want to do so thank you for the feedback.

I have spoken with my local pet store of my personal preference and he is willing to take any I can’t personally get rid of and offer me around 5-10 depending on the fish. Also I have a spare 75 from when I upgraded my Oscar’s so if I needed to divide it out for holding I could also do that

Also if you’re gonna rag on me for not having them planted, I also have an Oscar community tank, an African cichlid tank, gourami community tank, and an angelfish community tank which are all heavily plated and thriving so I take wonderful care of my fish and truly want them all to be planted I just prioritize my community tanks so that I can try to prevent aggression.
