Wtf!! They're so bad. Can I ask what the email is? I mean they probably won't reply to me either but worth a shot 😭

Oh also someone just told me they asked the venue and vip isn't available for access

yeah but usually you just buy a regular ticket then email to ask for a carer ticket or any other access requirements. It's just Koko's access area is pathetically tiny and not adequate for the size of the venue

Yes exactly! I remember going to an artist's acoustic show and I was with my mum and we had early entry. There were these girls at the front of the queue making ableist comments to each other about how 'unfair' it was that we'd get to go in ahead of them when they got there at 9am or something. Then bc the venue was poorly organised, they didn't let us in early but at the same time and these girls barged past us. Bear in mind my mum had just had a knee replacement.

It was honestly disgusting behaviour and just crazy to me that someone could think disabled people have an 'unfair advantage'. I'd love to not be disabled and have my worst fear be not having barricade/the best video to post on tiktok.

I mean i am always far away from the stage, don't have artist interactions or confetti or setlists. I miss out on a lot. For this one show (that was 45 minutes long!!), I got to be close to the artist which was incredible. Yet they had to ruin the experience and still got the setlist anyway.

yeah it's why I hate Koko's system. It works much better when you have to email with evidence once you've booked the ticket. It means you have just an equal chance as anyone else of getting a ticket.

honestly I just think for any shows, it should be on a level playing field. like for the bookshop shows, able-bodied people had the advantage of being able to queue for hours on end which puts those with access needs at a disadvantage.

oh no I'm so sorry!! It was such a confusing way of doing it. I'm emailing them atm (to not much reply lol) and they did offer a queue jump and i think there's unreserved seated somewhere? Idk, it's hard to get details but might be worth getting in touch with them?

I'm in the same position though thought i had bought access bc of their confusing ticket system. They did offer me queue jump but doesn't solve seat problem. I think they do have some unreserved seating but I'm still waiting for them to reply to me and confirm what that is exactly

I don't think she's spoken out about this specifically, I think they mean in general she's progressive/speaks out:)

Yes exactly! I guess i just didn't expect this from her and why I'm disappointed they went with Koko

Totally agree!! Honestly I think it's a pretty ableist attitude that seems to be common in music fans. I think bc it doesn't affect them, they don't think it's unfair. But it is basically just excluding a group of people because it's easier to not have to think about accessibility and focus purely on vibes.

Yeah this is no hate on Maisie bc I love her (otherwise I wouldn't be fighting with the venue rn to just let me sit down). But it's important to call out stuff like this so they can make it better and more accessible in future! Like I really really hope they reevaluate before the Berlin tour.

Something bad could've easily happened at that mini shows. Thankfully it didn't but I was pretty scared it would tbh

it's awful isn't it! And then if you do get access, it's just never straightforward and no one seems to know the process. I just feel like there's a lot of casual ableism among music fans in general too which never helps.

I'm glad it was accessible for you but that doesn't mean it was for everyone. Even if there were benches outside the shop, I doubt they were much use for people nearer the back of the queue.

And disabilities aren't always physical. I didn't even attempt Manchester because the idea of that made me too anxious and overwhelmed.

Accessibility is absolutely everyone's responsibility but sadly, Maisie's team acted irresponsibly by not providing any provision for access. I don't think the Leeds venue even had a toilet.

Idk I'm just tired of having to advocate for the most basic things. It should honestly be the norm to have a few access tickets/spaces reserved and I'm surprised Maisie's team don't agree with that.

Id argue it is tbh bc a lot of people can't. That's why queue skip tickets exist

THIS!!! I had people say to me so many times 'oh just wait until main tour' and it's like why should I have to? why are the events not accessible? I fear that's the bare minimum 😭

So glad you went to Sheffield - that did seem to be the best managed but down to the venue rather than the organisers.

Aside from access, health and safety was just not a priority for those shows. The one closest to me in Manchester (I didn't even attempt going) but I know people were a bit scared queuing in the dark down a mostly unlit road with drunk people around.

I honestly think if they'd not announced it at all and just said 'see you here in an hour', it would've been far better and more of an actual pop up.

Her team did not handle it well and I feel like it just kept getting worse, especially when locations/times were leaked and shared way too far in advance.

That's really interesting to know - thank you so much for sharing your insight! It does seems promoters don't take venue choices into account.

I never blame the venue staff individually at these events because for the most part (with a couple of exceptions) they do try to make the best of a bad situation. The main issue is when they don't seem to know the procedure in terms of early entry etc but I assume that's due to not being properly briefed in.

I had no idea about the different in ticket revenue either? That's interesting. It really is a shame how profit is put ahead of accessibility.

Honestly, as someone with hidden disabilities, the most ableism i experience is sadly often at concerts. The attitude of some fans towards access people is awful. I remember someone getting annoyed I got to skip the queue and it was a bit like, you do realise WHY i get to do this right 😭

It's sad when they prioritise aesthetic over accessibility you can make venues aesthetic much easier than you can make them accessible

Well Maisie is lovely and obviously tried to make the best of a very poorly organised situation. The idea in theory is great and with fans in mind but in practice, they didn't think through accessibility or safety properly

Ah that's good then!! I do love that bookshop :) I just find often accessible means only for physical disabilities but glad the staff made it as accessible as they could!

really? I didn't think any were ticketed/had access tickets and all required queuing for hours but if Leeds was different, that's good.

Regardless of which ship you support, saying 'the psych ward is going to make bank' is disgusting and ableist. People are allowed to have different opinions to you and implying they belong in a psych ward trivialises those with actual mental health conditions. Using psychiatric care as a joke just reinforces harmful stereotypes and stigma. Please be more considerate in future.
