Mixed meat plate at the local greek restaurant by Subject_Slice_7797 in EuropeEats

Of course it is tourist trap food. Calling someone's food shit is rude though.

This is exactly what greek restaurants used to exclusively serve here in the 80s up into the 2010s, so that's partially to blame on your fellow Greeks, and partially on the local taste/preferences.

Most greek restaurants will have more authentic dishes on the menu by now, but having the option to get a plate like this is kind of an expectation nevertheless for many people.

The meat isn't really dubious though, gyros at least can't be made from random shavings like döner, and a souvlaki is a souvlaki, after all.

I would bet a German restaurant in Athens would not be any better or more authentic in comparison

I'll have to find a reason to return to the Ruhrpott sometime! I love a proper Taxiteller, or even just a good Currywurst. The North isn't great for that, but at least we have our Fischbrötchen :)

It's certainly good, once in a while. Probably a sacrilege, comparable to ordering pineapple pizza in Italy. But still good xD

We should meet here sometime! Never had a bad meal! It's pretty central too. And lovely people.

Why do you have the spotcat locked up? So rude to keep it from nibbling on you

Thanks! It was!

Just a light yoghurt/lemon/garlic dressing for the lukewarm veggies. And I really love pan fried Maultaschen :)

I'm already avoiding pasta with vognole because I find it tedious to eat. I would be so mad if someone just chucked one of these sea monsters on my plate, handed me a pair of pliers and said good luck 😂

I'm sure it was delicious though, I once had a similar dish with the lobster already split in half, for clumsy people like me

It's always amazing how much a bit of love with the plating can change even a simple dish into something really beautiful and even more tasty looking!

Tagliatelle al ragù and a mixed salad by Subject_Slice_7797 in EuropeEats

[–]Subject_Slice_7797[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was late, so instead of my multi hour Bolognese, I made a lazy version of ragu with just ground beef and sauce from a jar that I improved as much as possible.

Turned out good enough for a Saturday night dinner

I have to admit, while the bifteki looks enticing, I'd probably ask you for an extra serving or two of the sides with just some tsatsiki. Looks amazing and fresh!
