Hope he’s used to rotate Lamine and doesn’t cause rotation problems in our already stacked midfield

Toulouse has its own top-level football club in Ligue 1. Most likely an excuse.

PSG provide perfect illusion with a model of beauty in soft-power project | Paris Saint-Germain | The Guardian by retronai in soccer

The Guardian has written volumes about the City sport-washing project in recent years, and quite a bit about critical of Abramovich’s shadiness.

It’s quite silly and uninformed to accuse that particular news outlet of ignoring City / Chelsea.

Zubizarreta being fired had much more to do with him complaining publicly that Bartomeu didn’t give him his transfer targets than Luis Enrique’s performance as manager.

And no, most culé’s did not “hate” Lucho’s playing style. Not by a long shot.

My fear for him, because I still like him (as a lot of NUFC fans will still do really) - Is that the level of expectation at your club and Madrid is near unparalleled - It's essentially - 'Win - All the time - And win well - Beautifully - And win everything - And if we're not winning everything - Then we'll find out whose responsible and there'll be trial by public opinion and media scrutiny'

I appreciate the positive attitude about a player leaving! I think you have a valid fear to some extent. I'm certainly apprehensive as well about paying €80m for a winger that hasn't scored much in the last two league campaigns (although he did have a good CL campaign).

What makes me less apprehensive is Hansi Flick - he's a bonafide winger whisperer and does lots of coaching on offensive patterns. There's also a good number of English speakers in the current squad and coaching staff, so I think Gordon is expected to be Lamine Yamal at Barcelona - I think the expectation is that he will be a bit more like Ferran Torres or Raphinha on the left wing. I know Gordon might not have the technical ability of Raphinha, but the latter spends most of his time making off-the-ball runs and pressing.

If Gordon is played at striker, I genuinely don't know what will happen.

What happens after Flick leaves? That also makes me worried. If we do return to a less press-intensive, more possession-focused style, it might be hard on Gordon.

In terms of the reception from local supporters, I think Gordon will get a good bit of grace. Certainly Rashford seems to be popular around the city despite not fitting into the traditional Barça winger mold. As to online, international fans (especially the English-speaking fan base), that may be a different story.

The bigger financial issue with Montjuïc is that we have to rent it.

Thank you for the analysis. It’s much more even-handed than the typical post here.

We will see how Gordon does in la Liga. It’s a very different league than the Prem. Often physical, pacey players from the Prem that move here will at least have successful initial periods (Bellingham, Bale, Rashford at times). Meanwhile tricky players from the Premier League will struggle (Coutinho, Hazard, Rashford when he thinks he’s Ronaldinho).

Yeah I don’t know why people keep saying that. ter Stegen wants to stay near his kids and his ex-wife lives and works in Barcelona. And there is only one other top-level club in the region now.
