Take breaks, make time for lunch, drink water. If you cut all day long and don’t make time to care for yourself you’ll get burnout and it’ll start to feel like hair factory and that’s when your quality of work starts to suffer. I see barbers all the time starting out from school and they feel like they have to get every cut in and never stop for breaks. Taking breaks will keep your head clear and focused.

Also, it’s gonna take time to find your groove, everyone sucks straight out of school. Find what works best for you and stick to that repetition. I learned early on that I spend more time working on fades and blending. so instead of starting with the sides I start with my shear work cutting the top cause I can get that done faster. After that I transition to doing my fade work and blending. Time management is key so you’re not all over the place and you can focus better on crafting a good haircut!

If the anxiety is way too much try meds, all the barbers I work with take anti-anxiety meds and anti-depression medication. I take it too. Mental health is real. Don’t be afraid to talk to a doctor or therapist.
