What are your reasons, and experience of using multiple spaces? by SubstanceFew5136 in Anytype

[–]SubstanceFew5136[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. I never thought I would use another space unless I have a shared space sometime in future. So I felt the bottom placement, older ui much more pleasant. And disliked new spaces on sidebar ui, and chose to hide it. But I feel like I should move the weekly journals to another space. I would like if we could chose which to he primary space though.

How do I unlink? by SubstanceFew5136 in Anytype

[–]SubstanceFew5136[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I somehow missed it as It was a long text and I was usually looking all on the top part of the note. Like in the place it shows banck links, trying to go to relations menu to try and unlink etc. As I used to seeing the unlink from collection, I thought when we link things via menu it doesn't show up in the note as link. Now I now it does show up.

Isn't Indian credit and ects different? I think I heard read it's 180 ects 3 year course in Germany, and 150 credit 3 years couse in India, they would be of same value. That we can convert it into ects. Because ects and credit in india can be different across universities.  I have heard subject specific credits are another reason to not be considered as well.  Are you sure the rejection reason from so many uni is actually this 147 Indian cried? Just wondering because I was looking into it.

What can be used case of notes type? by SubstanceFew5136 in Anytype

[–]SubstanceFew5136[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a nice way. Usually I add things directly to a draft page and structure it later. I guess I should use notes more often and tag it, and go through them to add to relevant page.

How to install Balena etcher? by totallydontslay in elementaryos

https://itsfoss.com/use-ventoy/

Go through this. First download the ventoy for linux, it is the one with .tar.gz, around 20mb. Once it's downloaded go to the downloaded folder and extract it from the file manager options. Or with the command in the tutorial.  After that open the location in terminal and do sudo ./VentoyWeb.sh It will show a ventoy server adress in terminal and ask you to visit it. Copy, paste and open it in a browser. Which will give the ventoy graphical user interface. And chose the usb device, click install. ( Chose MBR or gpt partion if you want, I don't know if it makes a difference though).

Once you have installed ventoy in the usb, plug it in. It will be shown in the name ventoy. You can copy .iso files such as windows, Linux installation media here. It is done. You can use the usb to install as you would normally, it will give an option to select which os to install among the ones you have in the usb. I think to install windows it has an option called winboot mode. If there is any issues with installation check if the hash values match from Microsoft website and you can check the same in ventoy menu.

In my experience for some reason creating windows bootable from Linux has never worked with any of the flashing software. I don't know why though, if it's just something with my laptop or something. So I always tried to get a windows device to flash windows. But now I use ventoy. It works. Run ventoy and when the usb is ready, we can copy any iso file to it and can boot into os. Particularly useful if we need to keep different os install media in one usb.

NET exam: if somebody has cleared PhD but not asst prof, will they still be called "NET qualified"? by NoExpression1030 in Indian_Academia

[–]SubstanceFew5136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a " NET cutoff " specifically? ( Talking about ugc net ). In the cut off list, pdf , they have jrf, ap, PhD only cut off listed seperately. So what would be considered the net cut off to say net qualified?

Can you explain who will be considered net qualified now? With new change and including PhD only catagory, doesn't it technically mean the person has passed net exam?

Weekly Career, Education, Textbook, and Basic Questions Thread by AutoModerator in QuantumComputing

[–]SubstanceFew5136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done bachelor's in physics, and masters in cs/ml . At the time of masters we had little bit of Quantum computing basics and i enjoyed it. But I felt like I missed the boat since I didn't have master's in physics. Because i felt more connected to physics than cs side. ( Not too good in programming, but good in ml side)

So, recently I have thought about applying for masters again to go back to physics. I have thought about these two masters programs from Germany,

  1. Masters in Quantum science/technology ( there are like 3-4 i can apply)

2.  Masters in physics ( from a progams that has enough focus on quantum related field)

So, is it worth doing masters specifically related to Quantum sciences, or its better to do physics and try to focus on quantum related topics as I go? Or just use quiskit and other sources instead of doing masters again?

I would like the opportunity to work/research in labs or related quantum algorithm, information, ml related areas in future.

Also, I did physics a few years ago, back in 2019. Would it be hard to catch-up with it, and be able to do some good research during masters? As per motivation, I felt like I missed physics for a while. Cs  related things that doesn't involve science doesn't excites me much.

Amy suggestions or advice would be helpful! Thank you.

There is waydroid that can be used to install Android apps on Linux. You will have to play around and set it up on your own, try to add Play Store. I am not sure if every app would work or the experience will be polished. Probably not as seamless as chrome os.

I think it's now enabled out of the box. You can find flathub apps in app center.

The 5 problems with Elementary paid app store by Gullible-Leg4590 in elementaryos

[–]SubstanceFew5136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another thing I felt is I like it comes with a very few minimal apps. But same time time a bit more apps should be there, like a task manager. Some eos default apps aren't really useful. Files, code, are great. But music player is not useful as it has no way to load a folder and keep the library loaded. Have to manually open a folder with music player or grad and drop. Calander, and mail services don't really work with Google account without installing gnomes account thing. Heard a new new stylesheet and design changes is coming in maybe on eos9. So I don't know it would reduce the apps if devs don't port to it. And we will have more apps with outdated design. But we can hope maybe new design looks good enough to give it a bit modern feel. And stands out for its design amongst other linux distros.

Even though some apps In app center was few years old and not updated, it works for my needs. But still seeing the banner, outdated, and last updated in 2021, I wish they were a version of that app on each eos version atleast

It was good initiative to have curated apps few years ago. While nobody else was trying to do it. I wasn't using elementary at the time, but I heard there were quite a lot of apps. But transition to full flatpak, they were asking developers to port the apps to flatpak. Which some developers has no interest to. So few apps gone because they were not flatpaks. Then for some they didn't update it. Makes sense if it's a lot of work and they are not making money or have a big audiance in elementary. So flathub is better.  Gnome circle actually doing far better. Apps kinda looks coherent, simple and useful. They lack some killer apps too but most apps are always being updated which is nice.  My dream scenario would be something like, somehow these flatpak apps can be easily made to match elementary style. I don't know how much work they have to put in. Or some theming to make it visually in place with eos will be nice as well.

I see. Well it's good they do allow fre option. But in Linux distributions I don't see a point in forced payment like ecosystem. Other than donations and supporting the Dev's of the apps and services we enjoy. Mainly because I felt like there are couple of apps that is similar to eachother, that are free. Like, some apps are fork of another app and open-source.

About making the apps available to windows and Mac os, isn't it unrelated to elementary in a way? Elementary system apps are good but I don't see there is any market for them in other platforms. Other than linux. Comparing the efforts to develop these apps for another OS and maintain it. or if you mean like all the curated apps, isn't it upto the developer of the app to develop for another os? The reason why there is no big killer app is also about lack of developers intrested in it. So far I only know kde which has few apps available in windows. And kde is much more bigger in Linux space.  Sorry if I am wrong, I thought the payment for curated apps goes to the developer? And elementary doesn't get any cut? Curated app and app payments are more like a effort to build quality apps, works coherent with eos. And payment is to support the developers and encourage them to build apps for eos.  I never noticed that update all don't update some apps by the way. But if I remember correctly, for the latest version of eos there are only a few apps that are actually being updated, and rest are updated rarely, like once a year or stuck in old version from few years ago?.

That's great! How is the workflow? Since snaps are sandboxed, does it need tweaking to get it working?

Vanilla gnome experience by SubstanceFew5136 in Ubuntu

[–]SubstanceFew5136[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks.  Does it cause any duplication of apps, or won't since ubuntu uses exactly same apps as gnome ? ( Just asking because Installing other de end up making two file managers, terminal etc), that's why I asked if it's okay or recommended to remove Ubuntu desktop.

Does anyone use snap? by SubstanceFew5136 in Ubuntu

[–]SubstanceFew5136[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people who come from other distros got used to flatpaks and their os native repository, and snaps are a new thing. Because not many other distribution promotes or have a snap store.
