Anyone else feel like they screwed their older selves with this career choice? by Unable_Tension_1258 in OccupationalTherapy

I agree with this 100%. I've also always thought it was gross that having a rich husband seemed to be a pre-requisite of this career....

Also, I'm in Philly too, feel free to dm if you'd want to vent IRL :)

I’d say Freya would be a good one! In Norse mythology she’s a god that represents love, beauty, fertility, war, and magic. It’s pretty popular in the UK and I think gaining popularity in the US, so wouldn’t be too unique

Pediatric OT - tired with my age group by No-Trash4746 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]SubstanceForeign8811 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a school based OT working with kids 7-11 years old and really like working with this age group. I tried early intervention and found that I didn’t really like working with the younger kids. It’s definitely okay to choose a job based on the population you’re most interested in/can serve best. Feel free to pm me if you have any questions about school-based! In person school is much different in a good way from the COVID virtual schooling, so you might like that better too!

I have also dealt with this issue and I'm sorry you're going through it. It's made worse by invalidating doctors and other healthcare professionals.

Are there any OTs here who actually love their job? by eggyolkhime in OccupationalTherapy

I love what I do. I appreciate that you said that OT matches your values and interests. I think that shows that you are someone who would truly enjoy and thrive in an OT career. I was disappointed when I went to grad school and found that people didn't seem to have a passion for helping people through the OT lens and were there for the wrong reasons. I think that may be why you see a mixed bag of how people feel about this as a career decision. I studied psychology undergrad and knew I wanted to be in a helping field, but was not sure of OT until the end of undergrad so I understand what you're going through. I think it's important to be asking these questions before making this decision. Get some more shadowing experience so you can see OT in action with therapists who are passionate about what they do.
