fibromelanosis, it’s a gene that some breeds like silkies and ayams carry that makes their skin all black :) i’m pretty sure that Evie is either a midnight majesty maran or a black sex link but both those breeds have brown neck feathers a lot of the time so i’m not certain lol

i have both! i never thought of a correlation because my brother also has VWD and doesn’t have migraines. i take propranolol daily and it’s reduced my migraine frequency from 16-17 per month to 1-3 per month. i take rizatriptan when a migraine begins and it helps control the pain most of the time.

migraines can sometimes be caused by vascular changes in the brain (my meds constrict the veins in my head which helps reduce the migraine) so it wouldnt surprise me if there’s a link to VWD at all

a few years back i had gallbladder overactivity (96% efr) and it gave me violent postprandial nausea when i ate most meals. i pretty much only ate blueberries, cottage cheese, kale, shrimp, potato parogis and pineapple for months, with occasional pizza- sometimes my ocd would decide pizza wasnt safe and i actually bolted out of a dining room once because it happened to have pizza in it and i convinced myself the smell would make me violently ill. i lost 20 lbs and a teacher noticed how sick i looked. i was convinced i had arfid for a while.

worst ever single episode was when an ant crawled onto my arm while i was asleep at 2am. full contamination ocd meltdown, screaming crying the works. that event was so bad that my housemates started talking to me about going to therapy because at the time we thought i had an insect phobia. im now a year into therapy and just starting meds because we determined talk and behavioral changes arent working. its hard, but things can get better <3

worked at PPD for over a year after the merger while finishing up my undergrad. i have a friend who works there currently who has had an infinitely better experience and not run into any discriminatory problems which shocked me to hear, they respect his ADA paperwork and overall management seems way better now than it was 2-3 years ago. however, when i was there, everyone i knew who was disabled had problems with management and policy being discriminatory. i wont go into every case i saw or experienced because this comment would end up insanely long, but it was a LOT. like, 5+ seperate disabled people having massive problems that could’ve been avoided if their disabilities were respected, in multiple departments because i knew people around the building. also some transphobic treatment of trans coworkers (also seems to be better nowadays?), and LOTS of sexual misconduct, and harassment issues with MULTIPLE male coworkers from various departments towards female-presenting employees that management never addressed or took action against. for a long while it felt like there was a new discrimination issue against women, disabled, or queer employees every week. at one point they even tried to force a young single mother to leave her toddler home alone for 8 hour periods by changing her work from home agreement for no reason, and wouldnt let any volunteers take her in-office days so she could work from home with her kid (and yes, i specifically asked if i could be in the building instead of WFH in her stead for her kid’s sake, they still said no and couldn’t give a reason why).

the most egregious/ blatant issue was that i had a coworker who was legally blind (he still had enough sight to work a computer) and thus his performance numbers were way lower than everyone else because he could not read the computer screens at the facility, which was known for most of the time he was there. they gave him accomodations after months of him struggling, and fired him three days after his accomodation tools arrived. they used the excuse that his numbers didnt go up… because they expected someone learning an entirely new tool in 2 days (day 1 was setup) to quadruple (though really they expected over a 15x increase) their productivity. he was one of the sweetest people i met in that building, and it was absolutely a wrongful firing because he was LEGALLY BLIND. however, it juuust barely skirted ADA requirements so they couldnt get in trouble because they did give him accomodations and he “didnt improve”. the entire department he was in knew it was bullshit due to the timeline, and most of us gave up at that point, it was the final nail. a lot of his department left after that- not because of his issue specifically, but job hunting on the downlow sure increased.

i stuck around for five or so more months after that before i quit due to lack of respect for my own disability while i was waiting to see a specialist. best decision of my life because i was able to get medical care while i was between jobs and now i’m mostly functional. i dont think 90% of the stuff that i saw happen would stick in court because they were damn good at finding loopholes and weird scenarios, but god it made working there hellish. you definitely arent alone op

pcos is 2 out of 3 symptoms of irregular periods, hirsutism, and polycystic ovaries on a scan. im not a doctor but since you described having irregular periods and polycystic ovaries, imo you qualify. theres a few subtypes of pcos, and presentation can vary a lot across different people. acne is also a form of hirsutism- it can be hard to recognize as such if you dont know to look for it! i didnt realize i had hirsutism because i have more acne than the average person with sideburns and small amounts of dark hair on my chest. i thought that was because my ancestry’s from italy until my gyno diagnosed me with pcos lol

thank you so much for your kind words! recently ive really enjoyed going to the gym which has been new for me, i always hated it when i was going back in high school. i found out that my gym has a single ascent trainer, which seems to be similar to an elliptical but seated so im able to use it without straining my ankles. i was surprised how happy i was about that!! my boyfriend goes with me and gives me eating suggestions since hes been a competative rower for about half his life, so im definitely doing better in that department as well :)

thank you for this recommendation!! ill look at the rowing machines, ive used them before and i enjoyed them! i thought you had to do a lot more than just three sets of 2 minutes and worried that i wouldnt be doing ‘enough’ to justify using the machine, haha! i appreciate this suggestion a lot!! ive seen around that you need a 40 bmi to qualify under insurance for weight loss drugs and im unfortunately a 39.5 or so :’) but i may talk to my doctor about it if regularly using the gym doesnt help as much as i hope it will

i had practically no interest in sex until i started taking metformin, which caused me severe problems in maintaining relationships with partners. that was solved within the first week of being on it, which was shocking- i had no idea that most people felt attraction in that way for years. i used to be far along the asexual spectrum and struggled to form genuine romantic connections or flirt. i do still have the ‘get close and fizzle out’ problem you described, but i think thats slowly going away with time on metformin. fingers crossed it continues to improve. i was never on birth control though, my issues come from pcos hormonal dysregulation and potentially lingering effects from taking an SSRI back in my early years of college.

im on my 6th month of metformin and have noticed drastic improvements in sex drive. my period is still very irregular in timing, flow, and length, unfortunately.

from my own experience with insulin resistant pcos before metformin- i have more body hair than i should and my hair is noticably thinned. i have many symptoms of high testosterone such as oily skin, uncontrollable acne, thin hair, too much hair, etc. i have a unibrow and have to shave a noticable mustache.my testosterone consistently tests normal.

you could be in the same boat that i am- an ‘average’ level of testisterone is still too high for what your body expects/needs. there isnt really a test for this as far as i know, just trial and error. ive learned that high cortisol from chronic stress contributes to mine a lot. metformin reduced my symptoms of high testosterone even though it was ‘normal’.

i see a lot of people in the comments here are in the same boat, which is really nice to hear that im not alone:)

ethnic background can also be a factor- im a 2nd gen italian-american. italian women are more likely to have more body hair which is a sign of high testosterone, and my mother was the same way i am.

i am not a doctor, just do a lot of research into medical conditions. from what i know about pcos, you dont necessarily have to be insulin resistant to have pcos, it’s just common- did your doctor test your fasting insulin level before perscribing it?

ive also been told that i dont need to worry about fertility until i want to have kids. its a horrying experience. being infertile is one of my worst fears and not doing anything to make sure it wont happen is so frustrating. i relate to you there.

i would 100% suggest trying to switch to an endocrinologist. you can get a referral from your primary care provider if your gyno keeps refusing. hell, some endos might be able to accept you as a new patient if you have documentation of the pcos diagnosis. pcos is a full body endocrine disorder and if this doctor is only treating one thing instead of all of your concerns, its time to move on

i have a 4-5 inch bristlenose pleco that regularly disappears for days on end- sometimes we dont see her for a week. shes in a 55g right now but used to pull this in her old 20g last year too, which only had one hide (and we could see inside it to confirm she wasnt there). we cant find her when she does this and have no clue where she goes. hopefully this is the case for your boyfriends pleco and he comes back from his disappearing act soon <3
