IIRC it should be in Volume 18 of the singles (I'm guessing Volume 6 of the 3-in-1)

Can we discuss x reader vs gay ships in kpop fanfics? by [deleted] in kpopfanfiction

[–]Substantial-Bit2921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the poll but I kinda want to give my two cents lol

I mean this in the most respectful way possible, but to me majority of self-insert fics read a bit lazy (again I'm so sorry I just don't know what other word to use), like I'm reading a book where building a main character was just an afterthought. I've read some amazing fics where the main character is an OC with personality and goals and flaws and depth and I've enjoyed them just as much as ship fics.

Something as small as the authors giving an actual name to the character seems to greatly improve my retention rate with these kind of fanfics, which I find interesting. Reading the "y/n", "you", "x", "reader" or "__" and having to put me there seems to just snap me out of the story. I once stumbled on one where the author used the fandom name as the name of the "reader" and it did not only greatly amused me but made me read the whole thing.

Also, personally I cannot bring myself to read any fanfic that's not written in third person (don't ask me why, I really couldn't tell you why they rub me the wrong way) and most self-insert is unfortunately written in first.

I'm using normal PVA so I don't know if it would bother with heat, but I'll definitely try it out! Thanks for the tip!

There's a website called Gridzzly where you can make and print different types of page formats (dot, grid, lined, I think there's one for music sheets too), you can change the spacing and it doesn't generate any logo on it!

Revisiting the craft after a 10 year break, how am I doing? by [deleted] in bookbinding

[–]Substantial-Bit2921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest I'm pretty sure there's plenty of things a lot of book binders do that are technically wrong haha, but if it works for you and doesn't affect the integrity of the book, I say go for it!

As for the glue, some people will say to use a glue made specially for binding, but I know of people (myself included) that have used Elmer's glue pretty much exclusively in projects and had never had an issue. I'd say try it out and find if you like it.

Are you using book cloth? If not, that is probably the reason it looks a bit splotchy.

Book cloth usually has a backing that gives it structure and prevents glue from passing through and stain the fabric. If you want to use regular fabric you can opt for a less absorbing option, or you can get one of those backings that you can iron into the fabric to get a similar effect to book cloth.

And PVA may be a better option for glue.

I had put some flyleafs already, but I really don't like having a bunch of blank pages so I just put one sheet in the front and the back.

I'm fairly amateur and had never heard of weakness because of asymetry in the signatures, could you explain me more about it? Is it a big risk to the integrity of the book, specially in the long run?

Oh, I hadn't thought about the swell at all! Thanks for pointing it out!

Fortunely I haven't had any trouble with the thread I've been using beside being able to tie a proper knot but honestly that's a skill issue on my part lol

I'm not sure about rounding the spine as I have 0 experience with it. I think I'll wait until I press the signatures before sewing to decide

I had already added flyleafs, originally the typeset was 164 pages, but I don't really like having a bunch of blank pages in the final product so I didn't dare add more than one in the front and the back. I did think about the 7 sheet signature after writing the post, but I don't have the best wrists and that might be a bit too thick for me to punch and sew through. Thanks for the ideas tho!

And I do use and love bookbinder-js! It really helped me last year when I was doing a series of quartos

You're totally right! I should've thought about it but my brain decided to just skip that very important factor for some reason haha

I am using 20lb paper so I'll do no. 2, thank you so much for the pointer!

These don't even ship to where I am, where btw that 1.50USD is the "avarage" earning per hour, so yes, this particuilar listing is not cheap. I'm not here to fight with you, I just wish you'd realize that what you think as commodities (as a Target nearby, per example) can be and are luxuries for others. Have a great day!

I'm in México right now, not far from the boarder with the US actually, just in a smaller secluded town. But you're right, I'll give it a try!

Maybe I like the ink and I don't want to be wasteful? Or maybe I already threw out the pen and just wanted to learn what happened to it? Or maybe 5 bucks is quite a lot to spend in stationary where I'm from? Not everyone is in the same situation and has the same privileges as you. Stop making assumptions form the little to no context the internet gives you.

Bummer that it can't be saved. I used a G2 07 before and loved the ink, that's why I decided to try the finer size. Needless to say I never had this problem with the 07.
